Like the republican congressman who said his idea of Bipartisanship was when Democrats voted his way?Over my years as a voter, I’ve seen more Dems cross the line to vote with Repubs than vice versa. It seems that now, with republicans more extreme, more intolerant, and more intractable than ever before, they are shocked to find Democrats no longer willing to cross their newest line.Howgoesit? It goes poorly. And listening to Rush DARE any republican who might stand with Dems to do so, or Norquist do the same thing, is slap in the face to the very idea of compromise and negotiation.I respect you, Howgozit, and, you are wrong to be so closed minded. Our nation has overcome so much it is inconceivable to me we are at the end of our Constitutional experiment except to the degree that people like Rightisright and some others say its past time for a revolution.Liberals are an annoyance, but they use laws and petitions as weapons. Not guns.Open your mind, Howgozit. Its not as bad as you think, but it can be made worse. With respectand sincerity,C.

    Thank you, Onguard,

It is rare I have an opportunity to point out fallacies in the Republicans without also noting the mistakes the Democrats have made. In 2009 Obama took office and Pelosi held the gavel. Obama assumed after 8 years of Dems feeling how the Republicans have been feeling since 2009, and because of his ‘historic’ election, people would tend to work with him. McConnall said in that first week his number one legislative goal was to make Obama a one term president.Obama angered many Dems by introducing legislation pioneered by Republicans. Obamacare was Romneycare, his imigration order was only one part of Rubio’s Dream Act, he kept military practices he’d railed against under Bush in place and working with people, improved them. We may or may not end up regretting that last example. What the NRA feels about gun legislation, I feel about parts of the Patriot Act.But you only asked me about the last four years. In 2010, a television camera saw a smiling John Boehnor leaning against a congressional elevator, sighing deeply, and then saying, “I got 98% of what I wanted. I’m happy.”The short of it is I’ve been listening to NPR, watching NBC, CNN, even Fox for an hour or so a week for…perspective. I’ve read newspapers, web mags, and talked to friends on the phones and strangers in lines. I’ve listened, and sometimes, changed my mind. The republicans were not given much respect when they lost power in 2009. They were less than respectful themselves during parts of the W. Bush and Clinton Years. But Rosa Parks didn’t ride in the back of the bus, and she stood up for those who did. If the Republicans are “in the back of the bus,” its time they start supporting causes and issues in ways moderates and independents can get behind.Thank you for reply. I’ve relatives who feel just as you do. It makes for thoughtful discussions at dinner times.Respectfully,C.
