At my company, we have a brief interaction between us workers on first and second shifts when 10 minutes of each day is completely wasted. It reminds me greatly of dogs sniffing butts.. Not much of value is said; we might as well be making doggie-noises at each other..Hey, try doing that with someone for about five minutes — it’s cool. The meaningless meaning of most small talk can be effectively conveyed.
Haven’t thought about it in years: Olaf Stapledon wrote “Sirius,” about a dog bred to have humanlike intelligence. .The dog is raised in a human family and treated as one of them. It can communicate with those who take time to understand its strained pronunciation, and voices its opinions of his life torn between human and doggish concerns..Scent plays a big part in his perceptions, of course — even to his pursuit of God as analogous to a metaphysical form of hunting. .Very poignant and thoughtful, as are most of Stapledon’s works.
