Hmm, does the ‘toon explain Boehner’s “skin tones”?

“Hey, all you guys posting here. How about reading David Brooks today.”You mean the article, with this quote from Brooks regarding the Fiscal Cliff Deal?“Again I’m much more glum. I’d say we’ve accelerated our trip to disaster. My big puzzle is why young people are not in the streets. They are really being hosed, sentenced to a living standard much lower than their parents because of boomer greed. I guess it’s hard when you are 25 to imagine the tax bill and the benefit cuts that will hit when you are 40, but someday interest rates will return to their normal levels and it will all come crashing down.”

Thank you, MortyForTyrant, and for Ansonia and Mr. Ima – perhaps an examination of some defensive, insular atitudes are in order – Morty might have been an American with dual citizenship but the assumption was made that he was some kind of nosy German (with great idiomatic English, though) who should refrain from telling Americans what they do wrong. And supposing that a non-US citizen does dare to criticize? Shouldn’t Americans welcome another point of view? Especially given all that is wrong with the USA and the poor performance of the outgoing 112th Congress, I think Americans need all the good ideas out there. (And, by the way, are Americans shy about telling others what to do? or, come to think of it, were they even shy about actually invading another country under false pretences in 2003?)

Morty, whenever I watch Congress on C-span it depresses me. Perhaps it is because I do have US citizenship that the hurt is closer to home. Have you watched the UK’s Prime Minister’s question time in Parliament (Wednesday mornings ? I think) ? Everyone there can speak English properly and sticks to the point under discussion -

The “discussion” about Morty and Deutschland brings to mind repeated Congressional debates in the last few weeks, let alone over a couple decades. It boiled down to our foreign policy, and almost all “conservatives” and a lot of “liberals” bringing up that all our actions should be dictated by what not just Israel, but specifically the radicals on the Likud side, call for in the way of U.S. policy.

I want peace in the world, and especially the Middle East, but isn’t it time to put some restraint on those who’ve been most aggressive in attacking their neighbors, repeatedly, and illegally, in the name of “preemptive” strikes? The lone nuclear power in the region is NOT “defenseless”, and has the largest military power in the world to “back them up” every time they strike another neighbor.

Maybe it’s time to restrain the bully with nukes, instead of the nerd with a rock? As we discuss making our schools “safer”, there might be a comparison to what everyone having more “guns” accomplishes??
