What really bugs ME (no italics here. either) is that just about NO ONE ever refers to the 14th as SAINT Valentine’s Day. Even if he’s only a legend he deserves more respect.
I refer to it as “Thank FSM that’s over with!” Religion has nothing to do with it– my wife is non-observant-Jewish, but God forbid I screw up Christmas, or her birthday (Jan 2), or Feb 14th!
Man, I have not heard of the Flying Spaghetti Monster in years. Sure brings back memories. I guess a guy named Steverino would use a FSM referance. Thanks Kauri44!

Peter, if he didn’t exist, it doesn’t matter what he’s called. Respecting a fictional character the way you describe just seems overly particular to me.

Several martyrs with the same name are known from acient Rome. Of the man we speak about - nothing is known except his name and that he was buried on Feb 14. So much about fictional characters.
And I really hope you call that guy in the red outfit with a white beard simply Claus - there is no need for you to call him SANTA, is there?

At least St. Nicholas was real. I saw his tomb in Bari; always thought a photo of that would make a nice Christmas card…
