Yeah, that pretty much sums it up. (Now, John, don’t make Elly jealous like we were eying you yesterday.)

Actually, John is now belittling her in front of the person who is above her in seniority. No wonder Elly is dejected. Elly works really hard at home and he isn’t even being loyal to her as his wife. Is this the real reason the writer and her hubbie broke up?

If they didn’t need Ellie, they wouldn’t have hired her. Since she’s not living off her paycheck, the main thing is whether she enjoys her work and work environment.

Maybe John didn’t mean to belittle her… maybe a light bulb just went off in her head to make her realize something about her work… maybe her perspective in what she’s doing will now change… like she’s just starting to realize the same thing when someone else says it out loud, and may give her some 2nd thought….

most of the time, the really high maintenance women don’t do much work, they feel their job is to look pretty – which in many places, that is true. You have to watch out, though, one day a real good looker is going to fool you and actually do the work.

John. just remember, no matter how good she looks, somewhere there is a man who dumped her because he couldn’t put up with the BS.

Seems like John is making a good honest effort to understand Elly’s job and be supportive of her.

One side effect of rereading these strips now that I’m rather a bit older is that I’m beginning to find John more than a bit of a jerk thank I did when the original strips ran. That ain’t support, that’s just trying to keep the conversation going so he can continue to ogle the blond hottie.

If John would look at his own wife with that same goofy grin on his face and hang on her every word whenever she spoke (the way he does other women that he finds attractive), then Elly wouldn’t be anywhere NEAR as insecure as she is.

This is humiliating for Elly in so many ways.
