If we could get that down to the kinds of firearmsavailable fire firearms available at the time the second amendment was written, then the perpetrator would be very lucky to get off a second shot!!

Right, Robert. And you could use the First Amendment to tell everyone about it. (You do know how to set type by hand, don’t you?)

Notice the stipulation “and shall..provide himself with a good musket or firelock” — in other words, the government didn’t supply the weapons, it was up to the individual to supply his own. Thus the stipulation in the second amendment, “a well regulated militia being necessary…” In other words, if there was going to be a militia, and if the government wasn’t going to supply the weapons, then individuals had to be able to. But this is probably all water under the bridge, the Courts have ruled.

“No, the Truth, it means banning high capacity clips will not stop mass shootings”

But it will make some people will feel better. Like they did something.

Australia has not had a mass shooting since they passed strict gun regulations in 1996.

“So suddenly the Constitution is not a living, breathing thing that needs to change with the times?”.Of course it isn’t, so lets just take all the guns away from anyone who isn’t white and between the ages of 18-45. That will solve everything, right? Oh and while we’re at it, only white male land owners will have the right to vote.

“You’re right Tigger. Lets just put vending machines on the street filled with assualt guns and cop killing bullets and other articles approved by the NRA.”.Why does it have to be either/or with people like you? It only takes a second to change a clip. But hey, if someone points out an error in your thinking then they must want to arm every person on the face of the earth. After all, every gun owner is just a nut waiting to crack.

On various boards, I’ve observed that some comments refer to the flintlock and the musket, declaring that these would be acceptable nowadays because those were the only weapons they had when the Bill of Rights was written..Logic dictates that had the AR-15 (or M-16) been available at the drafting of the Bill of Rights the use of “arms” would have included those..This argument is tantamount to saying that freedom of religion does not include Mormonism because it didn’t exist when the Bill of Rights was written.

If we manage to get the high capacity, quick change magazines that go on powerful semi-automatic weapons out of circulation, these shooters will not kill 15-30 people at a time. If we quit glorifying guns as the tools of heroes & mad men, we might cut down on the frequency. We can’t stop all violence. It’s an ugly, but integral part of human nature. We can limit the lethality of the weapons available, so that appalling massacres become much more rare. If we melted down every gun in the U.S., there will still be people stabbed & beaten with baseball bats. But a lot less will die than guns aren’t killing.I’ll settle for getting rid of all the semi-automatic rifles & pistols over .22 caliber.

You honestly think that your second point makes any sense? Look up criminal in the dictionary. They don’t care what the law says. The arms race between cops and criminals has been and always will be..As to your third comment. You join the ranks of all of the other hypocritical dems who want guns banned yet feel perfectly justified in owning one.

Yeah, I was an NRA member and served in Vietnam as were several other members of my platoon and one of them won the Navy Cross the second highest decoration for bravery in the marines.Knowing how to shoot and having confidence in your ability is great for your morale and contributes to your effectiveness in combat.Courtesy of NRA certified instructors when I was in grade school.

Europe limits the gun carrying capacity of its citizens. Europe has a population of about 600 million, while the US has a population of some 320 million. The number of shooting related deaths in Europe is about 200, and the number of shooting related deaths in the US is about 10,000, or just about 2% of the deaths in all Europe.

And do not go giving me this “but they killed some 100 million in the last century” as that was active military war, sometimes with bombing by planes that practically wiped out entire cities, not quite the same thing as individual military type firearms are now.

However, as some conservatives have pointed out here, not only are laws important, but enforcement is just as important, and I certainly would agree with that also!!

And? Either from the cop or the criminal point of view your post doesn’t make sense. Not once did I say that you asked for a total gun ban. Sit down, re-read and eat a plate of crow.

Sometimes I read Ted Rall’s cartoons and think that high capacity mechanical pencils should be outlawed.
