Bush Sr. did nothing on the world stage except get money for people suffering from the aftereffects of a sunami. He was also called upon by both Clinton and W to do service in the world. Obviously Trudeau knows nothing of what W does to help wounded warriors. And when soldiers were attacked by a terrorist in Ft. Hood, who was it that showed up? Not the current CIC, that is for sure.

You’ve got to hand it to ex-President Bubba. Whether or not you agree with his politics , you have to admit, he’s not only likable but has done a great deal of good, worldwide, since his departure from the White House.The Slick Willie & Papa Bush roadshow show was a big hit with everyone ( except the GOP ). It is definitely a one-of-a-kind type ! I agree with BD.

Clinton went on a highly-profitable speakers circuit after he left office; something most ex-Presidents do (and many ex-VPs).Gore made huge money in ‘green’ and not-so-green businesses.

But, of course, Doonesbury is having his ‘ignorant characters’ speak so it just shows how fools think.

To be fair, Reagan’s mental decline was such that he was probably incapable of significant public engagement after he left office.

Or while he was still in office… I saw signs of Alzheimers long before 1988.

Anyone who was paying attention, could see the decline in Reagan. He couldn’t get through a press conference without 3 X 5 cards, and prompting from Nancy.Even so, the very first thing he did after leaving office, was a 2 million dollar speaking assignment in Japan.

How I wish Bill Clinton could be president again. The very best in the second half of the 20th century.

I love how the right wing is still saying bizarre, unproven stuff about Bill Clinton in terms of his personal life. That’s all you got? How pathetic.

The right wing desperately wants to tear down the popularity of Bill Clinton and they just don’t have anything other than allegations and falsehoods. Doesn’t stop them.

A lot of folks seemed to have missed the point of today’s strip. It is not an anti-capitalist message. Instead, it is a pro service to your fellow man message. It is not that complicated really… Our Democratic presidents and vice presidents have chosen to continue to serve. It would be nice if more of the GOP ex-presidents and ex-presidential candidates would also do a bit more along those lines. If you can do those things and also make $, fine. But there should be more that those folks can do besides make $. Not that making $ is bad. It isn’t and GT did not imply in any way that it is a bad thing to make $.

I am so glad to see DTpi back on this page. He, and ms. montessoriteacher, are my two favorite voices of reason.You guys let me know that voices of reason, are not dead, and that the right wing onslaught will not happen without the resistance of good, thoughtful folks, who speak with education and authority.

Montesorri: I still have problems with Clinton lying to me and and all of the American people about the Lewinsky affair. And he remains responsible. However, all people are mixtures of good and bad.

On balance, Bill Clinton remains one of our greatest Presidents. And I look forward to helping him support Hillary for President. And hopefully Elizabeth Warren for VEEP.

Certainly one should not expect our leaders to be perfect. They are only human. Many of our more effective presidents seemed to have a few personal issues in terms of marital infidelity. On the other hand, some of our worst presidents in terms of what they actually did for the country were probably quite faithful husbands. I would sure rather have FDR rather than Nixon, for example. Did Nixon ever stray? There were probably few such goings on with that one…

Actually, I haven’t really thought about Herman for some time now. He is kind of a has been, so I am not really interested in considering him one way or the other, frankly. In terms of Clinton, the link you provided involves allegations which were never proven.

Since the allegations involving Herman were brought up, I would just say this, why did he give up on the prez race so abruptly after the allegations were made? I guess his actions spoke for him. He chose to turn tail and run as soon as the allegations were made and he didn’t have to, but he apparently didn’t feel he could defend himself.

Even if Herman had not been a womanizer, he certainly didn’t have the chops to be prez. He was great fodder for comedians, I will say that for him.

As a woman, I am far more interested in the decisions politicians make which actually affect my life. Whether or not a politician has an affair is between the politician and the politician’s spouse. If, on the other hand, a politician insists on deciding whether or not I have reproductive rights, for example, this is a very different matter, something which actually matters to me in my own life. This is a very personal matter in my own life, one which should be left to the individual.

You both make such great points, which is perhaps why I enjoy your postings so much.To DT, I too was very disappointed in Clinton, however, look at the vengence with which the right went after him. When Hillary said there was a vast right wing conspiracy, even though she did not know the truth, she was NOT wrong.They used a trial that one judge had ruled as, unacceptable, to ask a question in a deposition that had nothing to do with that trial, to TRAP the president into lying. Which is the greater sin, lying about a bj, or lying about the reasons to go to war, and who paid the greater price. Some sense of proportion needs to be restored.

I have heard that when Harry Truman left the WH, he went back to Independence, Mo., flat broke. From there, Truman continued to be a voice in advocating for Medicare and was given credit for this when Medicare was passed. Truman also advocated for others through education at his presidential library in Independence, Mo. All the presidents have a library now, but he was someone who was groundbreaking in being involved in the way that he was. Of course, there may have been others who would have done more in the way that Truman did if they had survived after they served as long as Truman did after leaving office. If he had been able to go on speaking tours and charged the fees that others have, Republicans and Democrats, I don’t think it would have been such a bad thing. Truman served his country and he served it well.

No one has accused Obama of the things which Herman Cain was accused of, so I don’t think you really have a point, sorry.

Glad Al Gore is such a public citizen. Nice sale he made. Too bad Clinton only made $13.4 million in speaking fees in 2011. I suspect he could be assured of his car payment if he were on a board. Dubya expends his efforts with wounded soldiers and painting. Each has the freedom to exercise his personal interests. Kind of nice, don’t you think? All in all, a really humorous strip.

Sadly,he’s responsible for many of the wounded soldiers and I will never forgive him for that.
