That was a very apt analogy that Calvin presented there. The system can grind the uniqueness out of the individual…if you let it.

At least you know better! There is hope if you spread that idea far and wide! Also, why not find that teacher NOW and tell him exactly what you think of him?

Gee, what a thoughtful caring statement. Maybe you disagree with their stance, but that doesn’t make them evil, self centered people that don’t care about others. Hubris, thy name is “Omnius”.

Non existent commas and periods in comments often confuses me as to the intent of the remark. I notice the misspellings, but at least understand the commenter’s stance. Whew! Almost missed that apostrophe.

The internet is supposed to be quick and easy, so not much attention is paid to spelling and punctuation, and it is easy to make typos. If you can understand it, that’s really all that matters.

When I was in elementary school in the 1940s, we diagrammed sentences. I’m sure most kids were bored and I’m not sure I could do it today. In 7th grade, we had an English workbook that had cute illustrations of sentences with misplaced modifiers.

It’s sad to see that a comic intended to entertain becomes a forum for useless political blabber. Lighten up, people!

This utterly unique and exquisite crystal of a comic turns into an ordinary boring molecule of water when you add a comment section. (Teasing!)

It’s a comic strip, grammatical accuracy is not that important. However, if you write a resume for a job application————Resume writing has gone to greater absurdity than the Tulip Bulb craze, where people were mortgaging houses to buy ONE tulip bulb! (History Channel – The story of all of us)

Calvin brought it INTO the classroom, but he is not taking it out of the classroom. If Calvin brought it in the classroom, it would be from his seat to the front of the room, where he made the presentation. :o)

In the class of my brother a teacher got hold of a boy eating during the lesson. All other pupils had to bring out their school bread and he forced the boy, who had eaten during the lesson, to eat all the bread he had collected from the other pupils. This boy did it never again!

I remember this one time where a friend of mine wore/brought make-up to class. The (Major-league A/Hole) teacher humiliated her by making her stand in the front of the class and made a mess of her face with whatever make-up she had left as she started to cry…

What a sad story! It probably scarred her for life, soured her on higher education and made her completely distrustful of all adults — particularly teachers. Do you know how she’s doing today? Hopefully well in spite of such a horrible thing for a teacher to have done to her. Just goes to show that bullies aren’t always children; unfortunately, they’re adults, too . . . and for a TEACHER to be a child’s bully is completely reprehensible, irresponsible and unforgivable, no matter what the circumstances! Teachers are supposed to be someone that children can trust — and I don’t mean trust to torment them either. Absolutely shameful!!!!!

Thank you for your kind words in my defense. There are two things you should know, though:-First, I disagree that everyone is fully entitled to their opinion. I believe everyone is fully entitled to their INFORMED opinion. Without that, it lacks meaningfulness, and who of us can’t use a little more informing to help shape our opinions?-Secondly, the particular offending remark was poorly worded by me. When I went back and reviewed it, I realized that – sans their actually having the context of what was really going on in my head – it would have probably ticked me off, too!-So, I’m trying to be more careful to qualify my state of mind while commenting these days, knowing that others can’t get my full motivation without me physically in the room. Typing alone lacks the subtlety most meaningful communication demands, don’t you think?-Anyway, thanks again!

Calvin, you are right, but that isn’t the way to get your point across. Do what Bill Watterson did. Grow up and draw a strip about the little ironies in life. :-)

English is a language that is sung so that the most delicate nuances can be understood by the hearer. Typing stuff, as we are doing here, means that much of what is intended is sometimes lost….
