I’ve never heard of the last two. How about Enrique Iglesias, Gloria Estefan, George Lopez and Cheech Marin?

Flaco Jimenez. Jerry Garcia, not being alive, isn’t eligible.

What none of you seem to realize, the Kennedy Center Honors are like the Grammies, and the Oscars, and other awards programs, you get the honors or awards by PAYING THEM TO GIVE IT TO YOU.

Trying not to duplicate: José Feliciano, Rita Moreno, Astrud and João Gilberto, Trini Lopez, Julio Iglesias, the Ramero family, and while he is probably too young even though conductor of a major US symphony, Gustavo Dudamel (being the product of Sistema Bolivár probably disqualifies him anyway).

@ HareBall – And what does politics and personal life have to do with a persons talent? As a “liberal” I’ll have to guess that you are another intolerant, narrow minded, self centered “conservative”. Joan Baez earned her fame for her voice and talent, not her politics. Yes, she did do a few songs intended to be sung by male vocalists but so did many other singers. He repertoire encompassed a great many differing lyric styles. Doing male vocals was hardly her sole claim to fame.

Hare Ball: It has long been a folk tradition to disregard gender of the song. The real folksinger is primarily a story-teller and is retelling someone else’s story as accurately as possible. When I was ballad-chasing (before portable recording less expensive than the Library of Congress’ trunk full used by the Lomaxes), we just learned it from our source and then wrote it down for the archives. I have first-person songs for male and female, although most are third-person stories..Flake: You have the mentality of John Edgar Hoover; what you don’t understand, you label “communist” to avoid trying to understand. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall have all manner of evil against them falsely for my sake.
