I used to work for Montgomery Ward. On the night before a sale, we’d have to work late putting higher prices on all the merchandise so they can claim the “sale” price was lower. I’m sure it’s still done today.
rofl, never actually worked retail, have you? From November 1st though sometime in January we are in complete hell. No, it does not stop after Christmas. At least for grocery stores. You can not imagine the insanity that comes with new years. Have you ever sold 800 gallons of 2% gallons of milk in one day? Not counting all the other kinds? All the other party products people want? No? Ok, then don’t sit there saying there’s nothing to do after Christmas, cause trust me, there is. Plus there’s all the cleanup from the hell month, oh, I guess you normal people wouldn’t know what the hell month is. That’d be November.
Well… and Returns Day, of course. ;-)Also, this could be taken 2 ways… inflated prices before Christmas or discounts on all the leftover Christmas junk that nobody bought. ;-)
Three years ago we had an ice storm that left everyone around here without electricity for two weeks. A week before the icestorm I bought a bottle of lamp oil from Wal Mart for $4.98. After the storm began and everyone was needing it, they were selling it for $8.98. I brought it up to the manager and he told me that I was wrong and that is the regular price, even after showing him my receipt from a week earlier. I reported them for it and later got a letter that said Wal Mart had told them that the earlier price was wrong and they accepted that. Wal Mart owns the law and the judges!
When I worked retail we kept the sale merchandise in the back rooms. When the (monthly) sale came along all the regular merchandise disappeared and the cheap sale stuff went out. The next day the good stuff came back out and the sale stuff went back into boxes for next time.
