    Odd how the appliance still works without those leftover bits.

    It’s better than being one screw short.

    Then what kind of a ‘Plugger’ does that make my brother-in-law—he always had parts left over when he fixed an automobile. It ran just fine but there was always something left over.

    Any Plugger knows those are called “pocket screws.”

    My Plugger dad used to take apart any new appliance so he “would know how it worked when it broke.” Mom didn’t mind, but it drove me nuts.

    @david_42 said;

    “Had a neighbor who added a couple bolts to the jar….”

    Essentially, our crew used to do the same thing to each other when we had something on the workbench.. Not so much tomfoolery during wartime, though. Things were serious with lives on the line.

    Last time, I had one screw less than I should have… still don’t know what happened to it. :-s

    The extra screws are for the drawer when something needs fixing later and you don’t have a screw. Of course, it never fits anything.

    Then, they try it once to see if it works. If it does, the loose screw is toast (so to speak!).

    My husband always seems to get every screw back in its proper place whenever he takes something apart to fix it.

    I remember the time putting a thing-a-ma-jig back on. One of the two bolts fell where it would never be reached. No replacement bolt was available. I put glue on the remaining bolt’s threads and torqued it in. Things worked fine for 5 years. But, I worried until the end.

    My son was repairing something and had his daughter to hold the screws for him. When he asked for them back, she had put them down the heater vent that went to the floor below!
