I wouldn’t think the wine list would be such a big deal, how many wines can be made of beans? I suspect the scavengers found a few undisturbed wine cellars? Anyway Linda still has that perplexed look. Things are happening too fast for her. Holly is on the ball.

Second shift…the evening crowd?

Valerie is holding onto her purse strap, so that’s why her hand is up towards her shoulder :) Not sure what type of bird Roxie is…perhaps a finch? The expression on Linda’s face is interesting..scared, but with a glimmer of hope. Anyway, she doesn’t look as determined to toss in the towel as she did when Holly dragged her out of the rooming house.

Jenner, that’s probably one of the songs Elvis could never get through without breaking himself up at least once.

Oh, and while Bean Wine would never work for the taste, if Yeast survived the apocalypse (and yeasts are tough-as-Cockroaches) they could always do the Mash – Ferment – Distill cycle, and make something on the continuum between Bean Vodka & Bean Moonshine.

Dump it in a charred oak barrel to age, and you might get something drinkable. Or not.

With all the beans being consumed in Endtown, one rather wonders at the gaseous effect they would have on such a massive scale.

There is a sense of disingenuousness about the taller one. Extra person on the shift cutting into the tips, maybe? The shorter one’s expression in panel 4 has a “Here we go again” look about it. “Initiate”? Possible conflict ahead… or not. (I hardly ever get these right, lol!) ;-)

Good to see that alcohol selection is still good even in the apocalypse.

I have a question. First, let me say that I appreciate folks posting the voting links. I participate often—frequently more than once per day, from multiple machines. But would someone please explain to me the value of voting for Endtown 1.0? Seems like that’s pointless. Thanks!

One other thought…I hope those saddleshoes Linda is wearing are comfortable, ‘cause she’s gonna be on her feet all the shift…

I have to say that, despite some of our regular readers not getting enough “shoot-em-up” action for their individual tastes, I’ve been thoroughly enjoying this character-developing arc. Thanks, Aaron!

I imagine in the ruins above were plenty of alcoholic beverages left. The first grabbed in survival would be the food which got reduced to beans as all the good stuff was grabbed up. Beers, Wines, Whiskeys, Scotch and the likes would probably been left at first then gathered. Beers are food. They have calories and have served for years as a base food. The Egyptians made a fermented beer like product to help sustain the builders. Meade comes to mind. The wines also have food qualities. Alcohol itself is classified as a food, a drug, and a poison. As a food it is broken down by the body into usable parts. A drug as it affects judgment first then continues. A poison as too much will kill you.And a good wine even helps make a not too good dinner be somewhat likeable. There is a saying. En Vino es veritas. In wine there is truth. (Latin not perfect) The wines are probably not an issue. Just which wine would go good with Beans ala Orange, Beans Alaska, Beans wrapped in beans covered with a spicy (rats) bean sauce.

Come to think of it, why are Wally’s/Flask’s ears pointed aft? I have seen Wallys’ to the side once (while sitting on a lounge with Holly) and saw Flask’s ears shift forward once (when she first saw Wally’s profile on the Security Computer) but they usually shift aft. Does this have something to do with their mental state? Is this just how Aaron draws cat ears? Enquiring minds want to know!!!

Valerie looks almost lionish – I know she is female, but her hair does lend the look of a mane. :o) But a bear does make sense.

It could be worse than we can appreciate…first, everyone has a lovely dinner of beans and more beans, then, afterwards…music.

Is it just me or does lion-lady’s (Valerie’s?) eyes look a little squinty and bird-lady’s (Roxie’s?) look in panel 4 seem just a tad bit conspiratorial? Too much absolutely and indeed for me.

When all you have is beans, the menu is easy to remember. If the wine list includes distilled spirits, that may be harder to keep up with.

What I see in the eyes are:“Now its time to initiate the newcomer.” “Here ya go. You serve Mr. Grumpy who hates beans with all his will some beans.”I bet you Mr. Jackrabbit hates beans and knowing his out pouring of banter would say so loudly and publicly.

Hey, if potatos can produce vodka, who knows what tasty drink might result from beans? No? Well, I suppose it’s better than no wine at all!

Just a minuet here!!! Linda is holding a book, a thick book of " this is the wine list." Nobody notice how thick it is. Have to be a stash of some kind to have that many boozes in stock. What??? Any body know if the gatherers brought back wine?" Why not hard stuff? Why didn’t the TS’s gather it first? There could be hazzard is carrying that much booze. Ok I am confused. It is a food as it can be broken into usable calories which the body can use as energy like any other calorie. They are empty calories as they cannot be turned into fat or stored. One gram of alcohol can produce about 7 calories when broken down by the digestive processes. It dries out tissue because it bonds with water in the body. That is why the more you drink of it the dryer you will get. That is also why it goes straight at the highest concentration of water in your body. Your brain. There it begins to affect things. First is judgment then motor skills. Fine motor skills go first then gets going from there. A poison if you get too much. The highest blood alcohol content I have ever seen in a person was .48. A full time alcoholic never saw him sober in over 15 years. He died of liver failure at 42. There have been higher results. But it is still a food by definition.
