Here with the fifth comment under Mr. Heller’s toon and I find I agree with everyone who preceded me. It is a feeble toon. There are many characters in religion- the preacher who married my wife and me was in the newspaper after retiring and he admitted that he was an atheist who thought he could do the most good for people as a member of the clergy. (I used to tease my wife that meant we weren’t really married). And even David’s cynical comment is accurate for many sermons I’ve heard. And Ima is also right, the poor shouldn’t be as effected by Mr. Obama’s taxes, though they will be effected by going over the “fiduciary fiasco” or not PROPERLY addressing the debt ceiling that follows two weeks later.That said-Because of all of our travels, I have been to many different churches of my wife’s faith… not catholic… and most sermons I’ve had the actual pleasure of hearing dealt with dealing with the beam in our own eyes instead of the splinter in the eyes of another. Like the Sufi Muslim writer from the 15th century who wrote that “Jihad” can not be fought against others; that “holy wars” are against our own natures and moral conflicts within our own hearts and minds..The examples I heard from the Christian preachers were always about people who turned away from the church, and even God, because of the judgmental and self righteous attitudes of members of the congregation.One day, I will die, though probably not as soon as some of my readers might like insert grin here. It will be at that point, I will either learn the truth (please don’t let the Southern Baptists be right, all of them tell me only SB go to heaven) or I’m not going to care.Either way, the bible I’ve read tells me to judge not, and to love my brother as I do myself. I’m going to assume that includes sisters. It also tells me to be a good steward to my world and all of its creatures and most of all that taking things away from poor people is like taking things away from Jesus. Forcing the poor to live in squalor is the same as forcing Jesus to do the same.So, before you criticize the commentator for what they disbelieve, ask yourself if you have truly served the faith which you claim to believe, and if you say yes, then love…and respect.Respectfully,& Happy Holidayze.C.
