These labor “protests” are getting increasingly violent and are turning off a lot of people that might otherwise be sympathetic to their cause. They will undoubtedly find a liberal judge that will rule against this anyway, why do they always think mob like protests are necessary?
Putting aside the justifications and criticisms of RTW, the way this legislation was implemented was just not ethical. Very little time was given for the public to learn and respond, what few in the public would have cared, and was signed into law by a Gov. who had told his voters he didn’t want to be involved with a divisive law at a time when his state was already in turmoil. However, that Gov is rightfully afraid of businesses not only avoiding Mich in favor of a RTW state like neighboring Indiana, but he is also afraid of companies leaving his state to go into Indiana. It is a sad and another example of a form of cannibalistic capitalism that is hurting small towns and small businesses all over the country. And big companies hoard money to protect themselves from hostile takeovers while workers and consumers pay the price of greed and bad legislation. And the legislators spin and twirl in the wind as they look for donations to their campaigns. On the financial implications, I understand why RTW is desired, but because of my own cynicism, I believe at its core, RTW is a way to reduce the influence of Unions on elections. A union without money can’t sue businesses for conducting themselves badly, nor can they efficiently organize to assist the Democrat candidates they have historically supported.Quick note- in 2014 and 2016, many of the superpacs that supported national elections are planning to focus on state and local elections. In states where judges are elected, we may soon see judges presiding over cases against people who helped them attain office. That will be awkward, and perhaps, corrupt, but under Citizen’s United, it won’t be illegal.Respectfully,C.

“Why do union heavy places all need bailouts?California ,the UAW and Detroit come to mind.”
The latest of the blatant remarks, testament to the current municipal problems with budgets, unions, declining business revenues, asking for “quid pro quo” from Obama. Video of Detroit city council session. I know many won’t like the link, but it wasn’t available on a “non-partisan” web site.
This country’s financial problems are WAY too big to blame them on labor unions. Fraudulent mortgaged-backed securities, lowering taxes during unbudgeted wars and non-reciprocal trade agreements with China are much higher on the list. Let’s place the blame where it belongs.
Wonderfully sad strip. My kids’ teachers have been unable to spell correctly, and the fact that teachers are, on average, C- students in college brings to mind the truism about government workers. You know, if you can’t get a real job….
It doesn’t appear to be that person’s sign either. She posed in front of it, yes, but did she print it? Doubt it. This Lester dude is rather amusing (not his cartoons though).

How is changing to a RTW state endangering anyone’s lifestyle? In fact it may well improve it as it has in other states.
