I’m glad to see the comments that appear here! I thought when I read today’s caption that I must be a plugger emeritus. I quit watching new years tv specials way before Dick Clark took over the tradition………….
I’m staying up to watch Kathy Griffith on CNN. (I remember when Dick Clark took over the local Philly show “Bandstand” when the previous host was arrested for messing around with the teenage girls.)
There was a time when we had to stay around for another three hours to entertain the drunks before packing up our instruments and try to get home without being killed by a drunk coming from the OTHER side of town..Musicians, stay aware, it’s Amateur Night out there !
Just how old are pluggers anyway Dick Clark was in his 80’s when he died. The teens who first watched him on Bandstand in the 1950’s are now in their late 60’s early 70’s.

Remember Clarkola? To get your tune played on American Bandstand, you had to give 30% of all royalties to Dick Clark.

And now we get to look forward to spending New Year’s with Ryan Seacrest… I think I’ll turn in early.
