Good Ole Dependable Oliphant………..you can always count on his being wrong. Obama planned on going going over the so called “cliff” from the beginning. Most Republicans oppose sequestration because of the defense cuts and would prefer a negotiated budget.

If they oppose it so much, they could have fixed theproblem last year. In trying to force Obama’s hand, or hope for a different election outcome, they’ve put themselves in theis position. Be careful what you wish for!

“….What about keeping what you earn & earning your keep? …”.Speaking of Europe, Greeks didn’t believe in paying taxes and look where that took them. Countries need to pay their bills and to do that revenue needs to be raised. Part of being a responsible citizen is sharing in the nation’s costs. It is you who is expecting something for nothing..And to blame the Dems is ridiculous. The nation was going into financial free-fall in 2008 when Obama took over.

Apparently the Democrats have already jumped and they are viewing the results.

“What about keeping what you earn & earning your keep?”-What about paying your debts?-“…I feel sorry for this mess that they’re leaving my kids…”-If the mess you refer to is our debt, then shouldn’t we pay it off?-“…I blame the Dems & their gifts to those who don’t or haven’t earned a thing.”-Our national debt is due to several factors. For you to try to pawn it off on people you’ve demonized while ignoring everyone else who ‘got theirs’ is irresposible self-delusion.

Dems may be “tax and spend”, but they spend for the public’s good. Repubs are “spend and borrow”, then they blame the dems. Look at Bush and Reagan. As far as “deserve” the rich man’s money, do you really deserve it if you inherit it? Work should be rewarded and so should investment. We are all in this together and we should all pay fair taxes.

The sequestration should begin with the Senators and Representatives forfeiting their pay, per diem, until a budget is reached. Then see how fast they get things done.

Taxing the rich won’t solve ALL our problems instantly? So that means they should keep getting off paying less than their fair share? Screw that. Let’s just start by going over the ‘cliff.’ It’s more of a bluff anyway.

And take heart, Republicans. The blue states are going to bail your worthless asses out again. Any solution to the debt will come from the blues, and not from the red states who all get more from the government than they pay in taxes.

The Republicans were re-elected to ‘hold the line’ on overspending. The people that voted for them will be the least impacted by the expiring loopholes and hitting the Debt Ceiling. So, this drama will continue for years.

Congress pretty much gave Bush what he wanted, which was two unfunded wars, unfunded drug program, unnecessary subsidies to friends such as agriculture, financial deregulation, and tax reductions. It is a formula that will create massive deficits and get you in trouble every time.

There have been lots of posts in which people seem to tire of others “blaming Bush”. Do these people think that presidential policies and their results just vanish when they are no longer in the White House?

Even Shakespeare said, “The evil men do lives long after them. The good is often interred with their bones.”

I often wonder what would have happened to our health care system and prison population if we had done something about AIDS and crack cocaine besides tell people to “Just Say No”. Just an example.

The cartoon speaks for itself. No one really knows what is going to happen. However, I wish to defend the “senile, old, Hollywood has-been, ham actor”.Reagan was the first President for whom I voted at the tender age of 18. Carter had failed to impress for reasons that might surprise. While Reagan let me down, he did star in a movie where he played a federal agent trying to stop a white extremist group from killing black people. It was the first movie where I saw white people standing up for black people. I had black friends who were smacked around by white kids who were 8 years younger than them and took it so their parents wouldn’t be punished. Reagan was one of a few actors that could have pulled that off.So- while your post has a lot of good comments in it, I must suggest that it took a lot of courage for an actor to take a role like the one I mention in the days of McCarthy. He wasn’t our greatest president, but he was a good man, and he deserves respect.Respectfully,C.

“… A message in that election result…” To the Pundits- yes. To the individual ‘hold the line’ Representative- maybe. I would prefer that this nation’s leadership operated like a football team and the goal was JOBS. Imagine the President being the Quarterback and the Speaker being the Receiver and everyone in leadership positions on the Line. But, we have Lawyers that thrive on contention.

“… many who voted for Bush…thought they would rather have a beer with him than with Gore…” Obama showed that he could be attractive to the Young and Single Women by being on TV shows. Great way to pick a president!

@Cdowns,seems like we’re the same age. i remember a different ronald regan actor. President of the screen actors guild who completely and enthusiastically cooperated with joe mccarthy and his morphene addicted henchmen.a man who through his cowardly complicitly forced Sir Charles Chaplin to run from the USA, accused of being a communist. A man who came close to throwing Lucille Ball out of work for the same baseless accusations. I find a frightening corelation between the red witch hunts of mccarthy/regan and the GOP strategy of vilification of swaths of citizens today.Playing a war hero in film, or standing up for blacks in flim, is not the same as doing it in real life. in essence, regan just “played one on tv”.

Why blame Bush for his spending binge? Just ask FOX NEWS: it’s all the fault of Clinton and Carter and LBJ and FDR.

“…Obama appealed to far more people then Romney…” AGREED. I am glad that Obama implemented Republican ideas that surfaced in the R Primaries. Clinton did the same thing. I do not care who gets the credit- just get the job done.

Yep, Europe is in such a mess. The GDP of the US is some $16.3 Trillion and the GDP of the European Union is some $18.9 trillion. And the latest Mercer report on the Quality of Life for the best cities to live in with the highest standard of living has 15 European cities in the top 25. Switzerland and Germany alone have 6 of the top ten positions. And Vienna Austria takes the number one position. The US? Honolulu is the highest at number 28, and San Fransisco is tied with Paris France for number 29.Yeah, we should really feel sorry for those poor Europeans!!

Amazing and awesome post, my friend! Said it all! Ironically, Ronnie Ray-Gun would be considered too “liberal” for today’s GOP.
