“Being poor is awkward in our culture because it is looked upon as a personal failing.”-Not on the part of children unless you count failure to pick richer parents.-For adults? Yes because there are so many ways to earn wealth that failure to do so usually is a result of personal decisions. For instance, I personally chose to not go into investment banking or politics.

It is. Poverty is not caused by racism, discrimination, or, even bad luck. People are poor because they are lazy or stupid, and often, both.
