The Republicans controlled Congress for 6 of the 8 years Bush was in office. They spent so much, they had to raise the debt ceiling each year. How ironic it was the Republicans who demanded an artificial debt ceiling during the Clinton Administration.

I like the cartoon. In WW1, it was the French who first installed a forward facing machine gun on an aircraft. It was the Germans who perfected the guns’ ability to shoot through propellers without destroying the plane. I’ve always assumed rear facing guns, like the one in the picture, had stops to prevent the tail gunner from raking bullets through the tail and wings of the aircraft. The Republicans do seem to be damaging their own “aircraft”, or brand, by taking shots at many of the constituency upon which they are going to depend in order to remain viable. And just as it took enemies to perfect a weapon of war, it will take these two enemies- Rep and Dem- to refloat this ship of state that is our nation. I particularly like the look the tail gunner is giving the pilot in the third frame. He is furious with his republican ‘leader’ for "misleading him. Yet, if he had done his JOB, he would have looked to the aircraft’s six, and held fire until he saw his target. Bullets are a finite quantity on an aircraft, just as money is a finite quantity in an economy. Bullets have to be conserved until needed, and then properly targeted where they will do the most ‘good.’ During the first years of our wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, money was wasted. From Blackwater, to Halliburton to the policies enacted by Rumsfeld and Cheney, a great deal of our current national debt was accrued during this time. It was only after Barack Obama came to office the true costs of the war was added to our debt and his reward for honesty was for Republicans to blame him for increasing the debt. This reminds me of when I cut some store credit cards years ago and then discovered my credit rating had dropped because the amount of “money” i could access was gone. In 2010, Boehnor was walking away from his negotiations with Obama and with a sigh of satisfaction as he leaned against the back wall of the elevator, a reporter asked him if he was pleased with the outcome. I saw the video, he smiled and said, “I got 95% of what I wanted, I’m happy.”He know Obama was elected on the promise that the wealthy would pay more in taxes, but Boehner also wants Obama to pick out what entitlements are bartered. It is alot like the debates between Obama/Romney. In the first debate/negotiation, Obama took the loss. We’re in the second negotiation/debate, and Boehnor is facing Obama 2.0 and doesn’t like it. Especially since Norquist and other hardline conservatives are willing to see the whole country go back into recession, even depression, in order to prove that THIS TIME, trickle down economics will work and the JOB Creators will start creating jobs. But why didn’t they do that between 2004 and 2012?Respectfully,& Happy Holidayze,C.

No, we aren’t ignoring Obama’s four years. Unlike any Republican president since Eisenhower, he’s reduced the deficit every year. Now he’s proposed a common sense set of initiatives to keep at it while improving the economy. Naturally, the GOP, who have no actual plan of their own, are calling it “not serious.” Yet they have no policies to propose, since (a) none of them are popular so they want the Democrats to propose them, (b) none of them make any sense to anyone who knows anything about economics, and © none of them would actually help reduce the deficit.

And those who dont pay can build their own roads, build their own schools, form their own military etc etc etc. Republicans dont want to help with the poor, they dont want to fund public education, they dont want healthcare for EVERYONE but do they want to spend trillions on bombs, tanks and fighters? You better believe they do!

But you continue to ignore the four years of The Messiah, the liberal god.You seek to ignore my point with your BS messiah bate. The Republicans decried a growing deficit during the Clinton Administration and enacted an artificial debt cap. After Bush took office, the government borrowed so much money the Republican lead Congress had to raise that debt cap 6 times. The moment a Democrat took office, the deficit magically mattered again.
