Last time we were at this point, Obama offered a compromise of $10 in budget cuts for every $1 in increase taxes. The Republicans refused. This cartoon is partisan BS.
Obama has reduced spending more than ANY Republican president in the past sixty years. And the Republicans can’t name ONE spending cut that they’d be willing to make. Defense? No. Medicare? In theory, but damned if I’ll give you an actual plan, you’d use it against me. Social Security? Ditto.
Democrats cheated Reagan…got tax hikes but the promised cuts in spending never happened….Dems again cheated Bush who agreed to a deal of tax hikes for a larger total of spending cuts that never happened….Dems again are doing their old Con Man scheme, this time more boldly….Tax Hikes now and perhaps retroactive taxes….for spending cuts in the faroff future…NOT.If the GOP falls for this again the Dems will have succeeded in killing off the opposing policital party…for Democrat Dictatorship.
Agreed. However, all of that infrastructure spending would only be for the general good of the country. Congress is focused on much more important issues.
Republicans aren’t serious about cutting the deficit. They just want to keep taxes low on those who live of of investments. Too bad they don’t care so much about people who work for a living.
The deficit grows $4 billion per day. And Congress is planning its next vacation. Kicking the can. I, for one, am tired of people saying that nothing is acceptable in one breath and having no alternative in the next. There is only one group of people who will be able to convince the recalcitrants in both parties to become adults and do their job, and that is the American voting public. I will do my part by sending a note to my Congressman to Do His Freakin’ Job. It will be of no value to offer him suggestions; he can only process generalities. One of my senators is part of the Gang of Six, and has been working more diligently than most anyone else on this. The other senator is just elected, but he was previously an effective governor. We can hope.
The only way anyone in Washington will care is if there is sufficient voter activism. I’ll hold my breath.
I find myself wishing that the Founders had “put in stone” a constitutional law for the federal congress and president, that if they ended a year with ANY deficit, by spending more than the Treasury had collected in revenue, the president and 535 members of congress would be FIRED without a right to run again for federal office.
Number one historical reason the U.S. has borrowed money, WARS! The F-22 was billions and junk. “Litoral ships” more billions on junk. F-35 is now at $1.3 TRILLION and it’s a piece of junk. B-1 bomber- junk. B-2 bomber, MORE junk.
A STRONG DEFENSE depends on keeping spending in check, NOT starting wars we don’t need, and NOT buying JUNK from the military industrial complex. RULE #1 The pentagon can ONLY buy products developed at private contractors expense until proven TRUSTWORTHY and worth while for the mission (without "mission creep), and only when proven functional, can they buy anything, from a frying pan, to a missile system, submarine, rifle, or aircraft carrier. Not ONE CENT spent on R & D! (Which is most of “defense” spending today!
