The plan is to bring our tax code to where it was when it was working. Look at the tax rates on the wealthy during periods of economic growth, lets return to that!

I am an objective observer: I’m an American taxpayer and a Libertarian so I have no partisan axes to grind. The reality is, taxes will go up. Done deal. The problem is no one is seriously talking about the gap between that increase in tax revenues and our deficit level. It is hundreds of billions of dollars. They have got to reduce spending, no accounting gimmicks, really decrease spending. The last agreement they came to between Obama and Bohener was a joke. It was more accounting smoke and mirrors than anything else. Someone has to sit down face to face, put the plans on the table and duke it out. The American people are what is at stake here, not the idiots in Washington that are more concerned with their political position than our well being…

Grover’s lobby for Tax Reform is supported by many Voters. The Pledge to oppose Tax Hikes is a pledge made by candidates TO THE VOTERS AND TAXPAYERS.Voters punish pledge-breakers….see GHW Bush re-election failure.-Obama/Dems only talk about Tax Hikes and Increasing Revenues. To pay for annual $1 trillion-plus deficits (4 in a row by Obama) and for more and expanded federal spending!-There are NO NEGOTIATIONS going on, in rooms open to public view. Apparently Dems are talking with other Dems about how to raise taxes, and GOP are talking with other GOP on the problem of how to get the Dems (sore winners) to focus on CUTTING SPENDING. It is also a problem that Democrats in charge broke the law 3 years and failed to pass a Budget.HOW CAN DEBATE ON TAXES/SPENDING TAKE PLACE WITHOUT A BUDGET TO WORK FROM????

Wow, that was kind of simpleminded on your part.

First, I wasn’t putting words in anyone’s mouth; I was pointing out that “raising revenue by cutting taxes” doesn’t scale infinitely. Period. It’s a simple statement. If you tax too highly, people will hide their money and revenue drops. If you tax at too low a rate, however, you just can’t raise any money. It’s not frikkin’ rocket science. You’re the one who decided to read into it that I was saying that narrowminded made a claim about scaling infinitely.

Second, assuming that the religious tithe is a good guideline assumes that (a) they did any more analysis than “that’s a nice simple number that everyone understands, doesn’t involve a lot of bickering, and we can enforce”, and (b) that it holds any more sense than any other religious doctrine, aside from that.

I prefer listening to people who have actually studied, you know, economics.

Here is something to think about — Conservatives make a big deal out of the fact that businesses abandon “liberal” California for Texas. The reason that “liberal” California is in such a mess, though, is a purely “Conservative” tax law, California Proposition 13 (1978), which strangled California’s ability to raise tax revenue, and which has created a massive infrastructure crisis plus massive unfairness to new residents.

Since churches have been brought up, we should all remember that religeous organizations pay no taxes. Do Republicans consider them to be moochers and takers? Just wondering…..

What a stupid cartoon. Obama has a plan, he’s been talking about it for FOUR YEARS. The Republicans, on the other hand, can’t seem to come up with anything except empty bluster. Their “balloons” have been the same unspecified loopholes that Romney lost on. It’s time to put up a proposal, or shut up.

Didn’t the Tin Woodman need a heart? I guess that’s not on Varvel’s wish list.
