I’ve often seen WWII news footage of GIs with bullhorns directing convoy traffic or supplies movement on invasion beaches. In fact, the TV show Pawn Stars recently showed someone trying to sell a WWII portable loudspeaker system used by beachmasters.
As for the draft, it’s elimination is one of the greatest advances in American freedom since the Civil War. A free country doesn’t have to force people to defend it. (This assumes the war is really in our defense and the politicians don’t prevent the generals from winning it.)
