    Grover thinks he is so much hot stuff, but I don’t see how he convinced all of them to sign a political ploy that put politics over the well-being of the nation and it’s people.Same with McConnell!

    They followed him like sad little puppy dogs, and it took this long for them to realize he’d been feeding them a bowl of poo?

    To answer that question: The wealthy backers of Grover elected him. Until enough public pressure is brought to bear, then Grover will continue to wield more power than he should be able to posses.

    Mr. Norquist apparently forgets these legislators also swore to protect and defend the Constitution of the USA against all enemies, foreign AND domestic. This pledge is an impediment to progress and therefore a threat to the USA. No one wants to have their taxes increased, but only the most shortsighted want to see important services ended. Somewhere between the idea of helping people and improve quality of life and the implementation of these rules a great deal of fraud, waste, and favoritism has grown into a ‘money maker’ of its own for those with the influence to influence politicians, or at the lower end, those who have learned to work the system.In 1979, interest rates had climbed to 15% and construction, the work I was doing, ended. The oil embargo was in effect, property values were dropping, and there was very little work. To keep my pregnant wife in college, I went door to door and washed windows, cleaned gutters, and did yard work while collecting food stamps. Every month, I had to report how much money I had made and I cannot tell you how many people told me to either under report or not report the money I made so I could get more food stamps. We still got more than we really needed, and it was enough to get my wife through her last year of college and within a year, we were off of food stamps, my wife and I had secure jobs, and we were grateful for the help we received when we needed it. And we did it with respect for the system that was helping us.We need to keep the services but lose the waste and fraud. Just as in the military… we need the services, but we need to lose the waste and fraud. We need wall street, but we need regulators to keep them from causing another recession. We need oil and gas, but we need inspectors to make sure our water, air, and land are not being placed at risk. We need good men and women working together in good faith to lead us to a better economy and a friendlier country, but we don’t need Mr. Norquist until he “evolves” to a more helpful way of thinking.Respectfully,C.

    Ask that twit Grover who funds him and he’ll refuse to answer because he’s funded and supported by the oil lobby and the Koch brothers.

    An American embarrassment. As are all the out of touch politicians that signed his foolish pledge.

    Nevertheless, we elected them. Since the Republicans want to restrict voting perhaps an IQ test for voters

    Typical lack of liberal understanding here. The money in taxes gained won’t last this government but a few days. There is no teaching you.

    @sw10mm:

    Again with the generalizations. I think a lot of liberals understand that, without reducing spending, tax increases are pointless at this time. I really don’t know anyone of any stripe who believes that tax increases alone will solve anything, not even liberals. On the other hand, they and a lot of conservatives realize that if there was more income, in addition to spending cuts, the deficit would shrink faster or with less pain than it would if there were no extra income.

    What many conservatives believe, however, is that there is always room to cut, and there is no need to increase income. In a perfect world, I would agree, but this ain’t perfect. Considering that the problem has taken decades to create and will take more than a couple months to resolve, and that it carries serious consequences for failure to resolve, the idea of taking any idea off of the table, making it untouchable, is ludicrous. And that’s why this toon makes fun of Norquist and his juvenile idea.

    I have observed that, with few exceptions, a lot of people on this site agree more than they realize, and if they would stop generalizing and calling each other names, it would become more apparent. Not trying to be preachy, just giving an opinion.

    What specific spending cuts are Republicans asking for, besides eliminationof PBS and Planned Parenthood?-I know they want spending cuts to Medicare and SS, but what cuts exactly?

    “We can’t keep spending more than we make.” How come? Chaney said debt didn’t matter. Has something changed?
