Use the dictionary: an attitude or spirit of pretense and deception.In Dickens, Scrooge used the term to refer to a false and commercial festival, co-opting the spirit of the season. The word “humbug” describes deceitful efforts to fool people by pretending to a fake loftiness or false sincerity.Sort of like Republicans.
