I’ll never forget as a kid when I used the Yiddish word “Kvetch” (to me it meant “complainer”) to my mother. She yelled at me and said its real meaning was someone who was irregular and had a hard time of it.
The very next day I saw an advertisment picturing a man whose face had turned purple. The caption said, “Don’t be a kvetch, drink - prune juice.”
