About 15 years ago, I bought my son a Christmas gift, and hid it so well, I have yet to find it.

My OH and I never bother to hide presents from each other, because neither of us would ever think of peeking! Although nowadays it isn’t worth it because we usually know what it’s going to be anyway.

I hope NASA never puts Jon in charge of any future space flight programs.

I did that with a gift for a cousin this year. Found it after I gave her the replacement gift that she loved. (So the other gift will just have to wait for another event.)

This reminds me of an autobiographical account by US Navy officer Donald R. Morrow, who was the Exec. Officer of an LST in 1950s. He recounted what ships’ officers dreaded most in that era – an inspection by Admiral Bintle and his team, to assess the ship’s efficiency. Part of the assessment was a spontaneous fire drill, where Bintle would hide a member of the crew. To pass the assessment, the crew member had to identified as missing within two minutes of the drill being sounded. On two ships, Bintle had evidently hidden the captain. In each case, the crews were forced to call off the attempt to identify the missing man after 15 minutes.

It occurs to me that maybe Jon just left the present under the tree and then forgot about it – the best hiding place may well be the worst, though I’m sure Liz would find it, even if Garf couldn’t.

My mom did that… mostly because I was such a good finder, she had to get more and more obscure in her hiding.

I think Garfield will find the present because he is omniscient.
