Anyone note the irony that an “act of God” basically delivered victory to the non- fundamentalist party?Even those opposed to the Incumbent said he did a very good Presidential job, and suddenly performance during debates was neutralised. This Foreigner says: God Bless America!

Actually, most of the politicians in this current administration seem to be encouraging mobs.

Self reliance??? Surely you jest. Every generation since WW2 has had more and more handed to them with less and less effort. That’s what the Right is so afraid of. Somebody might get some of MY toys!

Disasters do not define us. How we respond to disasters do define us. The degree to which we learn from mistakes define how we will respond to future disasters.Education, cooperation, and creative planning will make us a better nation in the face of a future filled with challenges.Respectfully,C.

There was help from the rest of the US coming to the NY, NJ, CT areas most affected, and quiet help from other countries. The people French and German companies brought in wore new cheap clothes and let the US reps who speak unaccented English do the talking while they helped repair infrastructure and in the case of Sonofi set up their building as a shelter and distribution center for clothes and food. When we go places to help we are loud and up front about it. Maybe if our help were more subtle, too, we would not alienate people. We are the most selfless, generous of people here in the US, but it doesn’t hurt to be modest about it.

Yes, Ima, it is America who responds to disasters all over the world. “Noblesse oblige.”

Your theory has merit. However I would point out that simply because knowledge is available does mean it is used, nor does the fact that it is used by one infer that it will be used by many.

@Ima:My wife was part of the Red Cross relief effort after Katrina. There were workers from all over the world, including the Red Crescent, and a number of Israeli disaster-relief workers as well.

NO Ima, the biggest disaster is people like yourself that do not even have the graciousness of candidate John McCain in 2008, or Mitt Romney in 2012. Being so gracious in defeat IS a virtue, NOT a vice!!

I have advised other posters to not gloat over President Obama’s victory, but then I do see where some of the more ideological right wingers here such as yourself have nothing better to do than whine, whine, and more whining!!
