    Who is who in the painting? The major gesticulating figure must be Astyages ordering the expulsion of Cyrus. But then of the two children only the younger one would qualify as an infant. But the two-year old is obviously not stillborn. And who is the woman? the two-year old’s mother, or the wife of Astyages turning her head as if to wash her hands of this?
