Miss Bliss: Today we're going to use a new communication tool in class! It's called a "Talking Stick." Classmates: Ooh! Miss Bliss: See? It has ribbons and glitter on it to make it special! Whoever holds it speaks while the rest of the class listens attentively. Miss Bliss: Who has something to say? Alice? Here, you may be the first to use the talking stick. Alice: Yes, Miss Bliss! Alice: Okay, stand back! Im doing the talking! Don't try anything funny 'cause I have a stick! Alice: Miss Bliss, do you swing it like a hammer or like a baseball bat? Miss Bliss: Thank you, Alice, you may sit down please!

Isn’t Alice a little too young to go through PMS?

That’s silly! Everyone knows that sticks don’t talk! They are useful for hitting, poking, and assorted forms of assertiveness, as Alice demonstrates. Silly old Miss Bliss!

She may walk softly, but I think it begins and ends there.

Hmm — I wonder what it says about me that this strip, and the one with Dill’s Big Stick O’ The Day (through the mail slot) are two of my favorites? (Then again, my list of favorites is about two or three hundred strips long….)

I think Alice is confused. One should speak softly when carrying a big stick.
