Silly cartoon, they left out the biggest growth item, Medicare. Add the extra regulations and you would see a long line of reasons we are in the mess we are in.
Don’t forget the most costly war of all…the war on poverty which is now the Democrat’s way to buy elections. So effective, Republicans have tried to get into the act with medicare prescription coverage, etc. Quit with the bush wars crud…we were attacked. On top of that, most of the costs were spent on us soldiers because an all volunteer force is expensive, but we try so hard to give you your money’s worth. That we had to borrow from China is so that people like you don’t have to give up your latte and buy war bonds. HOWEVER, most of the borrowing is due to entitlements, like Medicare.
While I generally agree with the cartoon, it forgets the Dems who were standing by with sugared fruits and whip cream to add to the mix.Good enough to fire up the base and keep the wedge between neighbors firmly in place tho.sadly,C.
Nice one Kevin, and so true. Why don’t more people see the GOP tactics? Wishfull thinking? It is destroying the USA. People need to pay better attention to cause and effect.
You must have the wrong guy. I’ve been saying for years the U.S. is in tough shape, including the last four years. But, I do give credit to Obama for halting the slide over the precipice. Enough that he deserves four more years to make further progress. Not so Romney whose policies of more military spending and less or minimal infrastructure, education, and research spending along with lower taxes on the wealthy would be disastrous.
Simple fact: Reagan and Bush 41, even WITH many tax increases to counter their errors, QUADRUPLED the national debt. Under Clinton, it increased 24%, paying of INTEREST on the increased debt was a part of that. W DOUBLED the debt he inherited, and the costs of his wars will keep going up for two decades or more into the future. Most of the increase during Obama’s years, and “continuing resolutions” the Republicans maintained as the only “budget” they would allow, are the result of W’s policies and programs, not Obama.
Great cartoon. RR peddled David Stockman’s fantasy that cutting taxes will stimulate growth and we let W ruin our credit with double guns-n-butter. Stockman now admits he was wrong and that we should have demanded a war tax. I agree: it was unpatriotic and bad economics to fight wars on credit (basically a consumption expense because there is nothing to show for it, not an investment, even in freedom). RR belongs in the cartoon because the idea he was dumb enough to exploit is what the Republicans are pushing on us again.

Yeah, god forbid we spend money helping the poor a bit rather than bomb someone…

5 minutes on google should be all you need to dismiss 8 years of Reagan mythology.
