Malala Yousafzai, a 14-year old student from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in Pakistan, was shot in the head by a Taliban assassin.
Man: Shall we put her out of her misery!
The Taliban are terrorists. The American Government are terrorists with drone (and who are, apparently, just as bad at targetting Bad Guys without killing lots of innocents).
The strip is a good combo of funny and disturbing — the best kind. RE: the cocktail, just ten minutes ago I was looking at the picture of Obama and Romney in tuxes with cocktails yucking it up at the Al Smith banquet. So yeah, reality can be disturbing and funny at the same time.
I think Ted’s message is that the drone attacks do just as much collateral damage as the directed terror attacks are doing. In a sense, it’s kind of pointing out that she had just as much chance of being hit by us as the Taliban. You can replace Obama with whoever may be President at any time we have used military force that injured or killed civilians, but the added irony I think Mr. Rall points out is that this one has a Nobel Peace Prize in his office.
By all accounts, what the Taliban did was dead stupid. By targeting this young lady, they have galvanized more of the population of the Middle East against them. Rall is off the mark here. Obama would not take out the ‘poster child’ against the Taliban. And what’s the deal with the cocktail? Obama doesn’t care?
I agree that this is over the top, however, I also think that using drones to elimate suspected terrorists and whoever else might be in the wrong place at the wrong time is over the top.
Yes, this cartoon does use exaggeration for dramatic effect. If Obama (or any other recent US president ) really cared about the victims of the US military’s aggression how could they sleep? How could they keep the job? I guess you could call it super-rationalization.Comments from those who use vulgarity, question Mr. Rall’s mental stability or who just insult him have nothing to add to the dialogue and should be ignored. At about the same time the young lady in Pakistan was shot , three “enemy combatants” in Afghanistan planting an IED were killed by a drone. Drones do carry their own weapons. Three children (young teens) were also killed. Drones are only supposed to be used to prevent imminent danger to US or allied forces. If they knew where the IED was being planted, then how was that an imminent danger? If the drone could spot the three men planting the IED, then it also could see the three nearby children. How is that different than what the Taliban did to that courageous young lady? The difference is in degree, not in kind. Both sides in this conflict disgust me.
I use historical references because “those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.”The Cherokee have a remarkable history in this nation and you would not do yourself any harm to learn about it. Of course, they appreciate clean air and water too, and you told me that was a liberal pipe dream so…I have hopes for you Ima. Glad to know you know about the landbridge, but….wasn’t that more than 7000 years ago? or do i have you confused with another person who doesn’t believe in an universe older than 7k?Thank you for the reply,C.

Rall’s solution would be to not attack the terrorist leadership, leaving them to flourish and shoot even more schoolgirls down.

I’m not biased — I feel the same way about Ted’s work as I felt about Al Capp back in the Sixties.
