It’s disgusting the number of people who pretend to be intelligent who can’t seem to distinguish between a character (Big Bird), a TV show (Sesame Street), the company that produces the show (Sesame Workshop – formerly The Children’s Television Workshop), and the network that carries the show (PBS). When Romney suggests defunding PBS he suggests removing an entire television network that provides commercial free programming to the entire nation.
Now I understand that Republicans consider NASCAR, MMA, and reality TV the highest form of entertainment, but some of us find programs such as PBS Newshour, Washington Week, and Masterpiece Theatre somewhat more enlightening.
The true unemployment figure is much higher than 7.8%.And PBS seems to hold fundraisers every year, anyway, let them do that more often if they really need more money to survive.
stopping taxpayer subsidies to PBS is not the same as stopping PBS broadcasts, it merely changes the funding sources….and Romney only gave Big Bird as one in numerous examples of stopping government funds for the multitudes of things that are unconstitutional for the feds to fund. -Separate Private enterprises from Government funding in the annual federal budget! Check the Constitution for what government is authorized to fund.

what Romney would ‘save’ by eliminating funding for PBS would be gobbled up by the military in about a minute

Big Bird and the company that owns him (the Jim Henson family) make millions each year. They don’t need any government subsidy.
A million here and a million there and before you know it you’re talking real money. Paraphrasing Everett Dirksen.

Let’s cut subsidies to “Liberty University” and Lockheed Martin. Both get more tax $$ than PBS, and PBS doesn’t promote religion, or war profiteering.
