Banning is one thing. Removing from the school library as inappropriate for a certain age group is quite another. Please try not to confuse the issue

Once, at school, we had a temporary teacher; (an elderly lady who used to teach at the school, years before) and she read from the set book that term (a war story). She surprised us by reading the swear words and earned herself a lot of respect in doing so. Miss “B” you were OK with us.

Good news: they’ve lifted the ban on Tintin books at the Stockholm Public Library. I always say ’don’t censor — footnote!"

Once my wife and I were in the Chicago main library, and when we got to the section where the books on Paganism and the Occult were, we caught a high-school age zealot who was taking books on those subjects and hiding them in other places on the stacks. When we confronted him, he said he was hiding the books so people couldn’t be tempted by the devil. We lectured him on first amendment rights, free will, threatened to do the same thing to bibles, then frog-marched him to the nearest security guard and reported him. When we told a librarian what he’d done, his card was permanently revoked on the spot.

All the while, he claimed we were persecuting him.
