That makes a great deal of sense to me. Who’s telling the truth. Brand X is 90 per cent more likely than….. What?

It is the same with salt. Salt is bad salt is good. Who pays for these studies?

“I read so much about the hazards of drinking that I gave up reading!” (I think that is attributable to W.C. Fields)

Studies show you can’t trust every claim that begins with “Studies show…”

Problem is that if the conclusion of a study is obvious, it’s already been found. If the conclusion isn’t obvious, there are a boatload of qualifiers. But those with axes to grind tend to forget the qualifiers—don’t make good sales phrases.

Paul Harvey, commenting on these type studies, observed that it seemed to him that too much of ANYTHING could kill you or give you cancer, even water!

I’ve know more old drunks than old doctors. When doctors say that they’re practicing medicine – that’s exactly what they are doing – practicing !They bury their mistakes.

A media report on a study should never be relied on, they often will reverse the actual results. If they don’t include the sample size, was it double blinded, or funding source the study may be flawed. Science like anything else can be manipulated, this is not an indictment of all science, but if pertinent fact are left out of the media report, it becomes suspect.

These studies are more useful if you combine them to find the optimum. No food is “good” or “bad” absolutely – but the studies can help determine how much is too much. For instance, the level of caffeine intake where bad effects start to happen is 400mg for a 200lb person (things get really toxic at around 1000mg). So keep your consumption under that to get the benefits without the drawbacks.

Animal products are absolutely necessary for health. There is no B12 in any plant product. Allegedly 100% vegan societies get their B12 from animal poop (often their own) or insect parts. (All unrefined food in your grocery store has insect parts.) However, as animal products as percent of calories increases from 5% to 40%, risk of both heart disease and cancer quadruple. 5% animal products is what you should aim for. (Flavor your vegetables with meat – don’t make it the main course – except on feast days, like Thanksgiving.) The biggest study confirming this was in China, comparing provinces. Rich provinces increased meat consumption to American (40%) levels – leading to more American diseases. There are also many rat studies (showing the same thing for dairy products, for instance).

One memorable Shoe strip was where he was at the diner asking about dessert. There was a pie that was low fat, low calorie and low sugar. To discourage too much eating it had low taste too lol!

Stuart: even the Dalai Lama has confessed his doctors told him he had to abandon “vegan” and eat some meat products, or die! As a non-practicing Buddhist, I’ve long recognized that canine teeth indicate humans must at least to some degree be “meat eaters” to balance the “veggies”.
