I’m one of the boss’s good guys and it still feels like this when he messages me and says, ‘I need to talk’. And everytime he’s done this, it’s been a promotion or a bonus. It still feels like I’m gonna get sacked.
Ages ago “Tank McNamara” had a strip in which the foreign-born placekicker scooped up either a blocked kick or an errant snap; and his holder took two or three panels to explain that he was now just another ball carrier and the two goons from the defense could grind him into the turf. In the last panel the kicker asks, “You mean I die now?” One of the goons answers simply, “You die now.” The gag is that for three or four panels the two goons on defense are just hanging in free space much like the defender above who’s about to sack the sad sack walking into the boss’ office.
