Being the first child of older parents, I wanted to have ours earlier. My 2 cents – at least have your first before you are 20. Now that I am a grandparent, I see how this works in spades – we get the grandchildren on a regular basis, I couldn’t imagine watching babies in another 10-15 years.
Reminds me of the time I almost dozed off during an English class when I had a cold; the teacher nudged me and I was SO embarrassed that I wanted to sink into the floor.
My mom was thirty when I was born – she was great. We got along fine. My last grandchild was born when her mom was forty, and I was seventy-one. I changed most of the grandkids’ diapers – still bathe the youngest, do lots of cooking for them, laundry, pot washing, shopping, taking them places. It works for us – everyone’s different. (I’m too tottery to carry babies downstairs any more, or stay the whole winter, but that’s about it. Luckily, I still could while necessary.)
30s is the best time to have a kid. You’ve already got your ya-yas out, common sense, maturity has kicked in (hopefully) and you’re able to put others before yourself. Not to mention being in a better position financially. I had mine at 32, and not one time did I wish I waited longer.

I wouldn’t take anything in the world for mine, but I wouldn’t give a plugged nickle for another pregnancy at this time.

You take what life gives you. Kids early, or kids late……..……. or not at all.

. . . and you might have to rear (or help rear) grandkids or great-grandkids. It happens. (See “Grand Avenue.”)

doesn’t she ever put that kid down? She’ll never be able to function alone.

Don’t you mean in your 20’s and not your 30’s? I’m 74, had 4 kids by the time we were 25! Yeah I know, times have changed.
