    Good morning, Slim.

Good morning, everyone else. Nothing much happened today. I read a lot of the articles I saved and put them in recyclying. Went to the supermarket and put my roommate’s bottles in the recycycling machine (for once no one with a huge bag of bottles was ahead of me). Then I pressed a button and got a receipt for a dollar and brought it to the cashier to redeem (I gave the money to my roommate). I bought a pound of swiss cheese and found there were actually VEGGIE BURGERS!!! for sale here (Now I don’t have to go to Manhattan for veffieburgers). Back to my reading.

    Good Morning, Vagabonds,

Slept in this a.m. Had a great drive home yesterday. Picnicked by a small lake, and really enjoyed the peacefulness. Autumn colors were everywhere!

Jan, yes, I keep about 90% of the books. I prefer hardbacks, they are easier for me to hold. We do have quite a good sized library. And, I do re-read them. The books that I don’t think I’ll ever read again are donated back to the library.

I was told that there is a series of books by James Patterson that I would enjoy……about a murder club…….the book titles have numbers in them. So, I picked up 1 thru 7. Also picked up another 3 by him. But, not too sure if they will be too gory or not. Anyone read his work?

    Good morning Vagabonds.

Rita, that was the Women’s Murder Club series. I’ve never read them, but I had a friend who did and said they were very good. Apparently he’s up to #11 by now. There was a TV series based on the books a few years back, and if that was any indication, I think I would enjoy the books. Angie Harmon played the detective, and there was a DA, an ME and a reporter that made up the “club”.

Supposed to be a nice day today, in the mid-70’s. Yesterday never got above 65. The cooler weather will be over by tomorrow, though. Up to 80 then and nearly 90 by Friday. Sigh…

Hola Vagabonds – MYSTERY SERIES (books): I used to read (and reread) John D. MacDonald’s Florida-based Travis McGee series. Great writer…great mysteries… the University of South Florida, Department of English (Ed Hirshberg, Editor) used to publish a periodical called The JDM Bibliophile (I recently saw one listed at abebooks.com for $30 – I should have hung onto all my copies!). MacDonald also wrote other novels, but the the McGee books always had a color in the title, from the first (“The Deep Blue Goodbye”) to the last (“The Lonely Silver Rain”). There was a poorly reviewed movie based on “A Deady Shade of Gold” with Rod Taylor as Travis. After McGee, I found the Spenser series by Robert B. Parker (Parker also wrote the Jesse Stone series, which have into TV drams starring Tom Selleck). There was a “Spenser: For Hire” TV series back in the 80s starring Robert Ulrich. More recently I have been reading the Florida-based Doc Ford series by Randy Wayne White. MacDonald and Parker are no longer living, but RWW is still going strong. As to Grisham, I read a couple of his novels and have seen some of the movies based on his books. I’ll have to give Patterson a try one of these days.

Weather here in the Ft. Lauderdale area is sunny & breezy (22 mph) with a temperature of approx. 79 degrees Fahrenheit and humidity of 70%. Can’t complain. If we’re lucky, it will stay something like this for the 6 mos.
