Alice: My mom drives a van of a color so neutral it does not occur in nature. Alice: Sometime it's like one of the those animal shows on TV where only the mother can recognize her young. Mom: There she is! Alice: My mom has a great maternal instinct. Mom: Are any of you kids mine? Mrs. Ritter: I'm not a kid. I'm Mrs. Grace Ritter and I want to go to the safe way.

Poor Mrs. Grace Ritter. Doomed to ride eternally with a van full of kids who do not include Alice but are driven by Alice’s mother! Of so neutral a color, too!

That’s what I’ve been seeing lately. A lot of cars of the same color, silver or gray, all shades of blue or brown. Automakers aren’t too colorful anymore unless you request a custom color.

I feel privileged to be able to follow the strip from its very beginnings.

Hmmm…I don’t see Dill, or any other of Alice’s friends. Just who are these kids, and just why did they pile in Alice’s mom’s van?
