    Hmmm, so, it is in the interests of the rest of the world you guys get universal health care at home. That ought to get the evil-doers (and collateral damaged) all jumpy and excited that their death panels will be scaled down.

    bruce, that was awesome….you answered mister rush-lover in a low keyed , calm and reasonable manner—it made me ashamed of the first retort that came to my mind upon reading it……. .all these hateful , my country - right or wrong, nra loving folks like health care just fine the way it is……until they wind up getting screwed by the all powerful , u.s. senate in their pockets, insurance companies…..

    You know the Constitution doesn’t mention internet crime either so if anybody wants some of my millions from my Nigerian bank accounts you should email me.

    And somehow providing for the common welfare from Article One doesn’t apply to the “health” type welfare of the people?

    Gotta love Danziger. Is he married? If so, does he have any close, male relatives who are over 40 and single?

    Kat - that describes me.

    ScottF - back when they wrote the constitution a doctor would come to your house, treat you for a day or two, and if you couldn’t afford to pay the pittance he charged, he’d accept some vegetables from your garden.

    Don’t understand how Jesus’ concern for the poor translates into huge governmental bureaucracies transferring wealth from the people who create it to the people who have consistently proven throughout history that they will waste it. Pretty sure he was talking about individual charity to immediate areas of need.

    So…there’s a Democratic majority in the senate, there’s a Democratic majority in congress and a Democratic President…and yet, the failure to pass a decent health reform bill is still the Republicans fault. Maybe the Democrats need to man (person) up and pass what they really believe in, IF in fact they do. I see people just as quick to bow to lobbyists, even if some of them are different lobbyists.

    The Democrats spent plenty enough years passing basically everything Bush asked for, for the war, with nary a peep - so why can’t they manage to pass something they apparently deeply believe in now they have a majority everywhere it counts?

    This cartoon does nothing but project. C’mon Democrats. Man up and pass a decent bill while you have power in the senate, congress and a Democrat President.

    Sooky Rottweiler says;

    Oh, the human stupidity! China has been in an arms race with america for decades and yet they lend america money to build nukes.

    It’s factoids like that that make me glad to be a dog.

    Sooky Rottweiler says; Who’s Felix anyway? That niphead (some humans are potheads, some cats are nipheads, get it?) Buzz always mentions a catnip-dealing cat named Felix, but I’ve never seen him.

    @ Ahab

    So the contention is that even though the Democrats hold power everywhere it’s still the fault of the Republicans that the Democrats aren’t passing better reform?

    Maybe if they had just a tincy-wincy bit more power they’d actually do it?

    I’m not sure this is really the change people believed in…I don’t see it as Obama’s fault - I think he’d be for much bigger reform if his party would have his back, but they’re not doing it.

    Felix, watching Congress fight regulatory reform of derivatives — the very over-leveraged casino game that brought the whole thing down like the house of cards it truly was — has been very enlightening and disgusting. Money talks and right now it’s shouting and winning.
