Poison is ingested whilst venom is injected. If you bite a critter and you die, it is poisonous. If it bites/stings you and you die, it is venomous. Not that this would help Steve, but judging from the size of the stinger, he is SOL (Soitanly Outta Luck) either way.

Call me pedantic, but my students are always getting this incorrect. We all have our little bugaboos, but as a teacher and editor, this one gnaws at me. Carry on.

That’s not a stinger, it’s an ovipositor, and you are right, he is S.O.L.

You must be somewhat amused to keep coming back. Does the word hypocrite mean anything to you?

Any teacher who uses the word soitantly is ok as far as I’m concerned, nyuk, nyuk, nyuk.

Apparently giant bees don’t hit Close to Home for everybody. Perhaps you have a published strip of your own?

The strip is in complete harmony with its description on the right, everyday settings and extraordinary events.

if it is poisonous, then it will not gnaw on you. ……. Unless, of course, whatever it is, is hungry.
