As any soccer mom or dad knows, the sport has been steadily growing in popularity in recent years, especially among young people! Kids will love a comic about one of their favorite sports, and parents will relate to the comic’s ever-supportive band of carpooling, game-attending, ref-scoffing parents. Join this group of pals, parents and coaches in their favorite game: soccer!
Cleats also follows the gang’s adventures in other sports. Playing tennis, baseball, golf, gymnastics, skateboarding and more, the kids and their parents laugh their way through games and practices.

LIGHTNING DELAY! LIGHTNING DELAY!
I love saying that. Great strip today, Bill.

Except for the last panel, this strip is almost verbatim from one of my son’s matches.

Kind or reminded me of last Saturday’s UTEP-NMSU football game in Las Cruces where a Lightning bolt struck three miles from the NMSU stadium & the game was delayed for three hours & didn’t get restarted until way after 9:00 p.m.!

But what’s a checkbook have to to with a lightning delay? To pay parking fees?

Who is the guy in the cart? The booster president? Does he have a fund raiser coming up?

That must have been a nasty lightning storm. You have to have 30 minutes without lightning strikes for a game to resume.

If you’ve ever had a kid on a select soccer team you know it can get expensive. The event I was at was a tournament run by our soccer club. The guy in the cart was a tournament official.

Bill - The expense of having a kid play soccer is why we decided against letting our son participate on an organized team. That, and we didn’t want our family’s schedule to revolve around his soccer schedule.

Thanks. I’d have never guessed league official. The school I teach at just started playing soccer in a league this year. We’re still pretty informal. I went to take pictures of a game yesterday. The game was scheduled to start at 8 but the other team didnt get the word. They showed up at 10:00 and the game started after a quick warm up. The kids had fun, and there was no talk of check books. Probably someday someone will improve things and we’ll know better. But until then we’ll just watch the kids have a good time.

Hey, where’d that thunder come from.
Sounded like it was over by the restrooms?
I thought I heard a bucksnort.

Mr. Hinds, thanks for the clarification. This is a great episode, and obviously a true story (except for the bit about the checkbooks, which the official did not say aloud, not wanting to sound too blatant, eh.)
