As any soccer mom or dad knows, the sport has been steadily growing in popularity in recent years, especially among young people! Kids will love a comic about one of their favorite sports, and parents will relate to the comic’s ever-supportive band of carpooling, game-attending, ref-scoffing parents. Join this group of pals, parents and coaches in their favorite game: soccer!
Cleats also follows the gang’s adventures in other sports. Playing tennis, baseball, golf, gymnastics, skateboarding and more, the kids and their parents laugh their way through games and practices.

A lot of the stuff you see in Cleats is taken from real life–almost verbatim. This strip was based on something my lifeguarding daughter witnessed earlier in the summer.

we used to jump off a 3 meter diving board at the local pool, trying to make the biggest splashes possible. my little brother was diving off of it at the age of four. we regularly would see kids climb up for the jump and then think better of it. the funniest gags are generally those with realism involved. this one (obviously) brought back memories. thanks Bill

This also reminds me of two scenes - near the beginning and near the end - of The Neverending Story, Part II, starring the late great lamented Jonathan Brandis.
