As any soccer mom or dad knows, the sport has been steadily growing in popularity in recent years, especially among young people! Kids will love a comic about one of their favorite sports, and parents will relate to the comic’s ever-supportive band of carpooling, game-attending, ref-scoffing parents. Join this group of pals, parents and coaches in their favorite game: soccer!
Cleats also follows the gang’s adventures in other sports. Playing tennis, baseball, golf, gymnastics, skateboarding and more, the kids and their parents laugh their way through games and practices.

Where are the other spectators? So many empty purple seats.

The minor-league team the “Wingnuts” has had a bad year. It’s toward the end of the season, and attendance is way down. They’re anticipating a big crowd for “Millard Fillmore Sock Puppet Nite.”
It’s really cool to catch a foul ball in the mouth of the sock puppet.

i believe the texting trend is in response to all the cell phone etiquette – don’t use your phone in the movies, at a restaurant, etc. – Besides, it beats whispering!

Cell etiquette may affect adults, but it’s not the driving force for my 12-year-old son. He’s very shy, and text-ing is less stressful than traditional discourse. I also find that all three of my kids will respond to my texts rather than voice mail. I’m not sure they even know how to check voice mail.

I read “Cleats” EVERY DAY. It’s one of my can’t-miss strips on gocomics.

I’m making a list of creators on gocomics (in no particular order) that take the time to answer reader questions or make comments on their own comics. Here’s my list so far. Did I miss anybody?
Pibgorn (Brooke McEldowney)
Bob the Squirrel (Frank Page)
Frog Applause (Teresa Dowlatshahi)
Cleats (Bill Hinds)
Eek (Scott Nickel)
Non Sequitur (Wiley Miller)

I think JPuzzleWhiz needs a hug. But you don’t need tonsils for sounds and voice. I speak from decades of experience.
