The phrase "clear blue water," explains author Karen Montague-Reyes, comes from the world of politics. It describes the ideological divide between two political parties. In the Torres house, clear blue water is the gulf of personal experience that Eve and Manny cross each day to make their lives work. Male and female, liberal and conservative, biracial and Hispanic, they approach everyday life from opposite shores and find common ground in their devotion to each other and their determination to raise their children well.

Has anyone noticed how this strip is absolutely terrific until she starts tearing down the opinions of others?

To be precise: it’s great until she starts talking politics, which is obviously not her long suit…

So what is wrong with her having an opinion and using this as a creative outlet for it? We are allowed free speech.

Eve does have a point with the importance of voting, though…I am a young African American with grandparents in age from 64 to 84, and if I did not vote, I would never hear the end of it!!!

Good for your grandparents. They appreciate having the right to vote.

I simply mean that her arguments represent a compelling reason to vote the opposite way that she seems to extol… unless, of course, she is trying to be satirical (which, from previous exposure to the strip, I seriously doubt). Refer to the Sept. 18 strip to see what I mean.
