The cartoonist suddenly realizes that his life after unemployment was EXACTLY the same as before unemployment.

or, didn’t the cartoonist jump a sinking ship?

Having to come up with a funny cartoon every single day can’t be easy. And rendering them so well as Mr. Jones does neither. We, the public, just consume the joke and never think about the work. R-e-s-p-e-c-t!

Looks like Clay Jones is gone for good: http://blogs.fredericksburg.com/toontalk/

I’m gonna miss him. As far as I’m concerned he’s got the best sense of humor out of all the cartoonist out here. Sucks that he and Sherffius are gone.

May not be as bleak as it sounds at first. From his blog:
    .
“No matter what else I do, you’re not getting rid of me that easily. In a week or two I will start freelancing two cartoons a week to The Free Lance-Star. I will still syndicate my cartoons through Creators Syndicate to hundreds of newspapers. In the coming weeks there will be a new website for my cartoons so if you follow me on Twitter or Facebook, stay tooned.”

Thanks for that info! I just hope he stays on Gocomics. Maybe I should flag myself in order to alert someone to call someone…

“My cartoons do not tell readers what they should believe. I hope they simply challenge people to think.”

Clay’s own statement summarizes why I like “editorial” cartoons, even if I vociferously disagree with particular views expressed. It IS the cartoonists that have to distill the “events of the day” graphically, and with great difficulty to indeed, whatever our perspective make us: “think”.

He should just get on the GOP payroll, like Ramirez, McCoy, and Lisa Benson. Cartoons are the perfect medium for the GOP voter.

He must not have written pro-O toons and the liberal media blacklisted him?

    @Ms. Ima

Yeah, that pro-liberal media like the Washington Times, the Chicago Tribune, the New York Daily News, …

Mr. Jones’ dismissal from his staff position had nothing to do with politics…his or the newspapers. The papers are cutting staff at a rate as alarming as their own loss of circulation. Here we all are reading these great cartoons for free instead of buying the increasingly archaic newspapers. It’s really our fault! Sorry, Clay.

The guilty can Go Pro on this site for $10.00 a year, some of that money goes to the creators, I did. So should you. No, I don’t work here.

Good luck Clay, and whatever you do, don’t listen to your old Bob Dylan albums, Ballad of Thin Man might be depressing. DO NOT go here!
    .
OTOH, try to find your old Talking Heads album! That one is more like uplifting!
    .
    Write if you get work.

Song for the day, trying to stay within the context of the toonThis one is with video but this one has The Image of two girls and one guy at the bar
    .
More uplifting than My Name is Eugene (But I do love that song!) But not by a whole lot. A whole lot of what it feels like after during a two week drunk.
