I have yet to hear an argument against immigration reform that doesn’t boil down to “I hate immigrants.” The reform bill reduces the deficit substantially. It puts social security and welfare on a more sound footing. It helps business, it helps the economy, it helps tax collection, it helps agriculture, it helps wages, it helps end worker abuse and exploitation. We can’t possibly deport 11 million people, and forcing them to live in the shadows causes huge problems to America as a society, and is cruel to them and breaks apart families. But the GOP base just plain doesn’t like those people, so they must be made to suffer. It’s sad and cruel.

There is absolutely nothing true in this post.

Let’s start with the economy and wages:

Here is CNBC’s analysis of the CBO’s report on Immigration Reform:

"According to the CBO, wages for both the lowest skilled workers and the highest skilled workers would decline for the first ten years after comprehensive immigration reform passed. The average wage across the economy would decline for the first decade. What’s more, as the footnote indicates, unemployment would initially rise.

“By 2033 [Per Capita GDP] would rise by just 0.2 percent. Does a speculative 0.2 percent per capita growth increase really offset the decade of pain from immigration reform?

“…the richest members of the economy will benefit from the bill even as the poorest members suffer.”

    .
The Democrats’ favorite word is “hate”, and their every action and every comment only prove that they are the most hateful of all.

So the Republicans are building the great fence out of love?

Want to become a citizen? go back, and come in legally. Make the process to do so easier. But coming here illegally should not be rewarded with citizenship. We have enough starving and unemployed people that we don’t need more from other countries.

But all businesses are free to hire illegals as much as they want.

This country encourages illegal immigration. Many of the Senators who complain the most have benefitted directly from exploitation of those workers.

I didn’t say that, Radish, but I certainly don’t think it’s due to hate.

It is a Strawman the republicans are using to inspire their hate in the low-informed voter. They need a scapegoat for the failed republican policys and roadblocks the put up in Congress.

    So, hateful republicans, yes.

^ Actually, I have been in a Walmart about four times and spent about $25 total. Thye closest one is about 10 miles away and I don’t find their merchandise or prices to be anything special.
    -
Are you saying that Walmart hires illegals? I have no idea whether that’s true, but I have no reason not to believe it, as it is consistent with what I’ve read about their practices.
    -
But if Walmart hires significant numbers of illegals and you know about it, isn’t it logical to believe that Jan Brewer knows about it as well? Wouldn’t every Republican governor and legislator know that as well? Not to mention the ‘journalists’ at Fox “news”.
    -
Put another way, if it’s common knowledge that Walmart hires illegals, why are there NO Republicans/Fox “news” viewers trying to get them to stop?

The US is already turning into a third-world country, irrespective of anything to do with immigration. Thank right-wing policies that have led to the greatest economic divisions in history.
