Bigotry is alive and well, just look at folks chiming in on the “immigration issue”, remember the “S” word folks? It’s being used all the time by right-wingers in the “discussion”. The reaction to what the lady said several decades ago does seem a bit extreme.

Any story that has any inclination of race in it always has plenty of biggotted right wing comments to follow it. I love it when they say how that they are not bigots but you can go find pictures from 100s of tea party rallies with racisest signs and disgusting commentary, repub senators who use racist name calling and one of the best examples was a female repblican group that was holding a rally during Pres Obama’s first election process and sent out invites to come help defeat him and they had pictures of watermellon and fried chicken on the invitations. When confronted they swore up and down that they didnt realize fried chicken and watermellon had racist overtones when connected with African Americans. Come on, if you are a racist and expouse racist views at least own up to them, freakin biggotted cowards…

I can’t imagine what the S word is.

Deen is wrong and was rightly terminated from The Food Network.

What she did was current day 2013, not in the 1960’s or 1970’s as some allege

Yet you do not criticize Obama’s Opponents in 2008 for repeatedly accusing him of being born in Kenya and not USA. They repeatedly demanded he produce his Legal State Issued Legal Long Form Birth Certificate.

The Democrats were the Original ‘Birthers’ and The Democrats started The KKK. Obama’s Democrat Opponents were Racist, every one of them as they questioned his place of birth.

Odd how Democrats will never criticize members of their own party who are racists, only Republicans.

As I’ve said before, there’s no one in the country more bigoted than Mr. Obama.

I find it hard to imagine anyone that age from the South who hadn’t once used that word. If it did coincide with a bank robbery as she stated I can well see it. My mother used the word in reference to anyone who acted badly and the colour of their skin had no part of her meaning.
I don’t think I’ve ever used it but since I’ve been around almost as long as Ms Deen and talked every day since I learned to, I can’t guarantee it. Oh yeah, I’ve spent all my time north of the Mason-Dixon.

As long as people recoil in horror, it will continue to plague society. Indifference will make it go away.

Really? Because people were indifferent to racism for hundreds of years, and all that did was ensure that racism stayed perfectly acceptable to most.
