There has never been, nor there ever will be a successful civilization without slavery.

150 years ago, there was legal slavery in the USA. After that, indenturing humans became a form of self enslavement, “owing your soul to the company store.” Education, unions, progressive thinking, modernization all contributed to the end of indenturing, but we have passed through the "high point’ of the middle class. Globalization, the value of currency over things currency buys, and a general suppression of the middle class is making ‘slavery’ come back in the USA. Some are immigrants tricked into coming to America where they work in hidden sweat shops or brothels and on the other end of the spectrum, our growing number of laws incarcerating people for non violent crime has created a burgeoning corporate prison culture where underpaid prisoners contribute to the cost of their incarceration and the stock price of investors through the products they produce.
And our legislators are making all of this possible.
    Is that what Americans want?
    Respectfully,
    C.

American companies are not responsible for the actions of foreign companies.

Employees who work in factories make many times the mean income in their countries.

Indentured servitude ended for whites early on in our country. After black slavery ended 1610-1864 for about 100 American blacks were under indentured servitude in the South. At the rate things are going most of us will be closer to serfs or even helots of the Plutocrats get their full way.

We never ended slavery in this country, we merely exported it.
