The estranged family that hates you deserves your estate when you die more than some you care about… what a joke.

But the gap is closing a bit. I know many hate equality but we are closing the gap.

And THIS is the MAIN REASON it is NOT a “State’s Rights” issue, but must be decided on a federal level!
Well, this and the simple issue of “…And Liberty, and Justice for ALL!”
If there were no federal tax issues involved, then yes, the states should have the right to decide, but there ARE Federal Taxes involved.

I know it would be a lot of work but I believe a new category of relationship might need to be established . One recognizing any two peoples right to share a life together , it’s benefits and responsibilities. Worthy of respect from all , while leaving heterosexual/conventional marriage its title and respect. Perhaps we could call these couples “joined” or maybe someone out there has a better name – I just hope you understand my sentiment.

mskemple: Unfortunately there are a LOT of federal (and state) laws that use the words “married”, including the 1040 in the cartoon. While it might be a good idea to change all of them to “paired under civil laws” leaving out the word ‘marriage’, this isn’t practical. Add that to the fact that your “joined” is the same as the “civil union” laws that are present in many states and it results in the same inequalities as we used to see in “separate but equal” school systems, bus stations and drinking fountains. Most uni-sex couples just want to be like their friends, relatives and co-workers, for better or worse, in sickness or in health, etc

Marriage belongs to two consenting adults. Atheists can marry and don’t need a church. Let churches bless holy unions, or sacred unions.

You are in for a Huge Surprise when The SCOTUS riles 9 to 0 this is indeed a State by State issue as if they rule Marriage to be equal to all, then no one can deny blood brothers and sisters from marriage. They cannot stop Dad from divorcing Mom and marrying his adult daughter, and transversely, they cannot stop Mom from divorcing dad marrying her adult son. Nieces and Nephews must be allowed to marry as well as 1st cousins. Oh, and people will be allowed to their pets and farm animals. This would indeed make marriage equal for all.

Where is the separation between church and state?

Bob, that is simply not true. In court, a family can have that stuff thrown out easily and essentially steal from a loyal partner. It is sad. It happened to my mother-in-law’s brother. Disgusting to me.

You do know that separation of church and state was to prevent only one state directed church and not to create a country of satanist, pagans, & atheist…

Does your wife know you spend this much time thinking about being married to multiple other women?

And the GOP just reaffirmed their support of DOMA and opposition to same-sex marriage in their meeting this week. Who, exactly, are they expecting to come knocking on their doors to improve their electoral chances? Do they think that the upcoming generation of voting-age bigots is really that numerous?
