Or use the cell as a suppository? Most users would find great psychological release!

Oh, c’mon. When’s the last time you saw one of those indestructible “rent-only” phones? Through methods I may not reveal, we have one of the old wall-phones, which lasted longer than our last three cordless phones. Put together. And those included Consumer Reports approved models.
And have they been claiming health risks again? I thought they disproved that a couple of times now – unless you are talking about the health risk of using one while driving…

The World health Organization is about to release the results from a ten-year study of cell phone use that shows an increase in the risk of both brain tumors and cancer from cell phone use.

The study found a rise in the risk of glioma (the most common brain tumor), an increased chance of acoustic neurinoma (a benign tumor of a nerve between the ear and brain), and tumors in the parotid salivary gland.

The research that has refuted previous studies on the ill-effects of cell phones, were industry funded.

I’ve heard quotes that using some cell phones is like holding you head right next to a microwave oven while it’s cooking. The level of radiation of each model phone is well documented. Although the phone industry insists that the phones are harmless, the models with the higher emission levels are usually the models that are given away for free or at a nominal charge. The phones with the lower radiation rates are usually the more expensive models.

The point is- these companies can, and do, produce safer phones. But like the automobile manufacturers who resisted mandatory seat belts or air bags, they fear any increased manufacturing cost would effect overall sales.

My children use their cell phone/PDAs all the time.

    Cancer of the head? NO!

Carple tunnel of the thumbs! YES!

Not to mention, the artist never noticed the bazillion borgs with the Blue tooth sticking out of their ear?

    Dr C.

Gee they finally got those in Canada? I wondered when that would happen!

The biggest safety feature of the land line is you can’t use it while driving, well, unless you have maybe a 300 mile long cord?

The Phone on Right will no longer work as Analog Landline Phones went to the Phone Graveyard years ago.

Once again, I am awed by Mr. Bennet’s drawing style… although I doubt those types of telephones exist anymore.

Can you point me to one of these studies? Thanks.

TIGGER: As far as I know, those phones still work. Any upgrades to digital were backwards compatible. You didn’t see any large govt program to give all the poor free digital phones, a la digital TV converters, did you?

PS: Rotary phones (remember them?), still work, too.

Addendum: After a little research, it turns out that even completely fiber systems use analog to digital converters, so, yes, they all still work.

I don’t know where you guys live, but I have a phone just like the one on the right (it’s in my basement near the washer and dryer), and it still works fine.

CNET has a nice listing of some of the cell phones with the highest and lowest radiation levels.

    http://reviews.cnet.com/cell-phone-radiation-levels/

Years ago, my wife went to a very comprehensive list on the FCC site before purchasing our own cell phones. I made fun of her paranoia at the time, but have since apologized.
