That guy speaking must be a journalist, right? Or maybe just an ignorant, race-baiting cartoonist from a cheezy Tennessee newspaper…

Watched this crowd in Alabama in 1966, pretty much the same content of their speech today, but they’ve “refined” the words.

Keep it up, dtroutma. Lying little girl-government lapdogs like you are why the Demoncrat Party is headed off a cliff right now, with all their lemming-like voters following behind them…

Scottfreitas - You’re still ranting and repeating all the right-wing mantras you’ve been taught. By the way, I have grown up - with non-thinking bigots like you, and while growing, I learned to have an open mind, listen to all sides of an arguement, and reach my own conclusions about the issues. And my conclusion is that your rantings have no substance or grounding in fact.

I live out in a rural area of PA. and am sad to say racism is still alive and well in my neck of the woods. The white supremist milicias are coming back strong. I hate it and pray the Secret Service keeps Obama safe. That ridiculous outburst by Joe Wilson is exactly because of the racism in this nation.

I almost don’t want to say anything- this “Toon and recent press has really shown how over-the-top the Libs are. They are headed for a fall for sure. But, since I care about my country more than my lying Republicans…Libs! Get a grip, already!

NFP, does any of the following sound familiar? I’ll set aside the issue of “fringe” elements among the GOP (for the moment) and address what looks like mainstream action among your’ party. Right wing behavior will stop alarming dems/libs when the following happens:
Once GOP members stop ranting out loud during Presidential conferences.
When they stop bringing weapons to community meetings.
If they’ll stop declaring that the POTUS is intentionally deranging grade school children with subversive speeches.
If they ever stop screeching that health care reform is a plot to put the elderly to death.
When (if ever) they stop deranged rants about how Obama is not really the President because he’s not a citizen.
If they stop intentionally raising hatred against him with statements about his “hidden” muslim agenda.
Regarding what I hope is ONLY the fringe
Finally, I’ll not try to credit you personally with fundamentalist references to Obama as supposedly being the fulfillment of the biblical “Antichrist” prophecy, common tho that unfortunate, distorted, pathetic belief is among your’ party.
I personally attribute that particular distortion of reality to those right wingers who knowingly manipulate the easily misled or simple minded and can only call that agenda incredibly disgusting.
And Bigotry (See Above) is on the rise whether you admit it or not, NFP, the skinheads are crawling out of the woodwork, they smell opportunity with a black president in office and they’re probably right.
So what are Dems/Libs doing of that scale, NFP? Is all of the above supposed to represent reasonable behavior?
bikemaster said, 2 months ago
Do we all notice the way the vast, left-wing media conspiricy keeps twisting and distorting reality to promote their dishonest point of view? So now, when your neighbors get upset enough with proposals on the table that they realize are fundamentally unsound, bankrupting and non-sustainable, and are willing to take their time to attend these dog-and-pony shows called “town hall meetings” to express their feelings, they are being compared to the KKK? What’s next? Baby-rapers & child-molesters?

Mama Trout - Love your dog- I have an old black lab with white around her mussle, I call her Greybeard. She loves me anyway. Are you saying that nothing has changed in 43 years? I haven’t heard any speeches out of your neck of Alabama recently, but the rest of the world has moved on.
Malicious Kitty - How hate spews from your every pore. Maybe you missed dosing today. You stated with no uncertainty that you hate the Constitution of the United States, and that your are qualified to pass judgement on every citizen of same. When you come down, and can speak rationally, come back to us. You might even have something intelligent to say.

Well, here’s my two cents (people claim I don’t respond enough):
Once GOP members stop ranting out loud during Presidential conferences.
My Senator from Missouri handled her meetings fine.
When they stop bringing weapons to community meetings.
The individuals with weapons didn’t go past the Secret Service, (et tal.) cordoned-off area of the meeting (They were legal where they were).
If they’ll stop declaring that the POTUS is intentionally deranging grade school children with subversive speeches.
The original plan obviously had PR overtones.
If they ever stop screeching that health care reform is a plot to put the elderly to death.
The question of rationing that would lead to substandard care has not been addressed: death is a very real possible outcome of diminished health-care.
When (if ever) they stop deranged rants about how Obama is not really the President because he’s not a citizen.
Let’s see the LongForm Birth Certificate, or the one on record with the Hawaiian authorities. Bear in mind, this issue has all but disappeared in most conservative circles.
If they stop intentionally raising hatred against him with statements about his “hidden” muslim agenda.
This won’t go away with the crowd that fears this; because for it to do so he would have to unequivocally denounce any belief in the authenticity of the Muslim religion. The Muslim religion is interpreted by some to condone lying to the infidel if it facilitates your Muslim agenda.

NFP, that was a respectful and reasoned reply, and I hope to reply in kind. Knowing me, you can imagine I disagree with you on much of it, but perhaps not so radically as we tend to think.
One of the things about the screaming is that it sets a tone which makes reaching consensus nearly impossible. Once the screaming or accusations start, you can kiss any reconciliation goodbye.
I will skip the weapons thing because they were legal, though still provocative in my opinion. On the other hand, I think anyone who is not a cop and carries a loaded weapon around the streets is a danger to my safety – and a bit of a nut. And I know a few of them.
To your point of the school speech – everything any politician does contains an element of PR. That should never have to be said because it is understood and can be no other way. But the speech was good and appropriate. I for one think the president ought to address students every year. But that’s just me.
Re: health care. Perhaps the question of who gets what kind of care is not settled. But those who insisted and the “death panel” line knew this was not the case. And no matter how anyone working on health care said there would be no such thing as death panels, they continued to scream (there’s tone again) that there were. The Jon Stewart interview with Betsy McCaughey was instructive.
The ranting about Obama’s citizenship is completely unjustified for reasons I’ve given before. A) His mother was a US citizen, therefore he is. B) Hawaii gave all it’s going to give as proof of live birth in Hawaii. As Humphries said, sometimes there is no more. C) Nobody asked McCain for his birth certificate, and he was clearly born outside the US. D) Nobody has produced a birth certificate from anywhere else, and since they are making the accusation, the burden of proof is on them, not on the president. I do not believe the issue has disappeared from conservative circles because I keep seeing it – and not from the MSM (unless you count Fox).
I completely agree with you that the “Muslim” issue won’t go away from that crowd because he cannot and should not as president denounce any belief in the authenticity of the Muslim religion. Or any other religion. He is the president of ALL Americans. But the more important question is, what if he were a Muslim – would that matter? Should it?
cdward said, 2 months ago
nomad, I agree – I wish it were never an issue. Somehow it is, and I don’t think I can just blame one side. Shall we agree that we will not judge or manipulate a person by his or her race, and that we will condemn all efforts by others to do so?

Thanks CD, for typing out the long form of my complaints and fleshing out important details, appreciate it.
If the GOP leadership really wanted an informed party base they’d be doing that, don’t think that lines up with their intentions tho.
I agree with you, TONE has a great deal to do with debate, my impression is that many of these issues could be easily resolved with simple information, mis-interpreting what isn’t understood as a threat is an unfortunate problem, if it isn’t being done by design.
NFP, you’re moderating, wouldn’t have given you credit for that but admit I’ve not read many of your’ postings lately :-)
I don’t agree, tho, that issues (for instance) about health care should be seen as a threat by the right wing simply because members of the GOP feel insecure about the outcome. GOP leadership contriving fear among your’ party to incite the political base? Wouldn’t be the first time by a long shot. (See my last comments).
Fear as a political tactic isn’t just wrong, it could cause irreparable damage to the whole democratic process, as if that’s not the intention. This threat is of particular importance in our current state of financial crisis.
“Loco”, think that moniker is quite appropriate, reason has nothing to do with your’ comment, I’ll place value in your’ judgement when you actually say something worth paying attention to.
dtroutma said, 2 months ago
Loco- Howie was a GREAT dog! He’s now in a cedar box on my mantel, couldn’t let go.
On the “race” issue, I went to the south right about the time of the Civil Rights Act. While in the Army, and traveling around the country and world, I actually saw more real “bigots” in Ohio and the upper mid-west than in the south. I also saw extreme bigotry against the Native American tribes in Wyoming when the reservation lands found oil, and the white communities didn’t have any.
In the days of feudalism, it was the haves who hated the have nots, as they exploited them in every way. The kings and elite just couldn’t understand why those under their heel were also resentful. Things haven’t changed much, have they?

I’ll bite, NFP. How?
Heartily agree with CDW about religion, do you really expect this President to condemn (you said “denounce” but the effect would be nearly the same) Islam or any other religion because of what 14 radical Saudis (and 2 Pakistanis) did on 9-11?
Maybe I’ve got this wrong and you only meant that he should declare himself to be definitively “non-Islamic” but I don’t think he should be required to betray his family (some are Muslims) in order to gain the approval of some few intolerant Americans.
Religious extremists in this country may be pleased by that but I’m not one of them. Radicals here may blame all of Islam for 9-11 but the majority of us know better.
cdward said, 2 months ago
dtroutma, nearly all “isms” are about control. I want it, and you’re in my way. If it’s convenient to paint a group as inferior or wicked, then it’s a sure thing someone will do it, and they will have followers. It’s easy to believe that we are someone superior – and if someone authoritative is encouraging the idea, so much the better.

Just to get it on record.
Obama and the democrats have already have a law that passed the house. It is federal protection for child molesters and all other 597 forms of sexual perverts.
The conservative right will never have anything to do with that. In the above case most of the republicans voted against it while most of the democrats voted for it.

puppy … well, pup, if I had magical powers …..
I’m saying tell those holding racist placards to take them down, tell those shouting racist rants to stop. It would be so easy to do and it would provide some real evidence to the GOPers claim that the teabaggers aren’t about racism.
But none of them has done it yet.

So this is really about thought and mind control? I doubt if anyone’s cautions would have any effect on a hardened crazy; and that’s assuming someone would want to implicate themselves in somebody else’s madness or criminality. And racist signs and such I’m sure are condemned already by all reputable organizations involved in protests anyway. I know the local tea-bag and Conservative org.s have cautioned against strident and offensive protests.

nofear, you seem to fear much. It is not about mind control, at least not from believecommonsense. What she is proposing is civil discourse and responsibility on the part of GOP leaders. The hardened crazies are ones that should not be tipped over the edge by inflammatory rants. I saw signs carried by tea baggers stating Obama was a lying African, that he was Hitler, and he was a very perverse scary clown. These signs are beyond the pale but I really do not believe they have been condemned by GOP leaders.
ezdeb said, 2 months ago
How about the poster showing the president riding a white baby into a coffin? The person holding the stick that sign is on should not be allowed to engage in discourse on any subject. Not killed, not “offed”, as puppy so quickly jumped on, just not allowed to engage us with a sign like that. The type of person who would bring such a sign automatically gets pegged as a racist, hate filled fool.
It’s not something to snarl about, pup, right?
